Until Dawn Rotten Tomatoes Score Is Revealed – How Does The New Horror Movie Compare To Past Video Game Adaptations?

The Rotten Tomatoes score for Until Dawn has been revealed. The new horror movie is based on the Sony video game of the same name. However, to adapt the key element of choice, the film sees its characters experience death repeatedly in a mysterious house. To survive, they must break the cycle and stay alive, like the тιтle says, until dawn. The Until Dawn cast features Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Odessa A’zion, Ji-young Yoo, Belmont Cameli, Maia Mitchell, and Peter Stormare.

Ahead of its wide release, the Rotten Tomatoes score for Until Dawn has been revealed. The film has fallen on the “rotten” side of the spectrum, scoring a 50% Tomatometer. This score is subject to change, as there are only 20 reviews so far. Similarly, the film does not yet have an audience score.

What This Means For Until Dawn

The 50% score means that at least half of the critics found the new adaptation somewhat entertaining. In her Until Dawn review, ScreenRant‘s Mary Kᴀssel gave the movie 8 out of 10 stars, writing: “the production design is a highlight, fully immersing us in this nightmarish world and expanding naturally.” They also praised the movie for not taking itself too seriously and ultimately found the ending satisfying. Thus, it is important to understand that critics have fallen on both ends of the spectrum with the horror movie, leading to this mixed Rotten Tomatoes score.

In recent years, video game adaptations have grown increasingly popular. Most recently, theatrical audiences saw the release of A Minecraft Movie. Though the film has also gotten mixed reviews, it has been a huge box-office success. There is also an interest in horror video game adaptations as The Last of Us season 2 is currently releasing episodes weekly on HBO. While this installment comes from a more controversial game, The Last of Us: Part II, the season is getting strong reviews overall, scoring a 95% Tomatometer.

Our Take On The Until Dawn Rotten Tomatoes Score

The Filmmakers Had A Hard Task

The Until Dawn game is well-liked and pretty iconic in the video game community, so the movie has big shoes to fill. Whereas something like The Last of Us is more focused on narrative than complex gameplay in the first place, director David S. Sandberg and the rest of the Until Dawn team had to adapt a game where the player’s actions are critical to the story’s progression. Ultimately, video game fans will be the best judges of this film as it releases widely in theaters this weekend.
