Thursday Murder Club First Images: Pierce Brosnan, Helen Mirren & Ben Kingsley Investigate A Killer Case In Netflix’s Whodunit Movie

The Thursday Murder Club‘s first images have been released, showing Helen Mirren, Ben Kingsley, and Pierce Brosnan investigating in Netflix’s upcoming murder mystery. The movie will release on August 28. Boasting an all-star cast of some of the best British acting talent, the movie is the first film adaptation of Richard Osman’s The Thursday Murder Club novel series, and will be helmed by Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone director Chris Columbus. With a few months until the film’s release, Netflix has dropped a few details about the project, including some images.

Per Netflix Tudum, the first images have been released for the movie, with the principal image showing Mirren’s Elizabeth Best, Brosnan’s Ron Ritchie, and Kingsley’s Ibrahim Arif standing looking pensive, alongside Celia Imrie’s Joyce Meadowcroft. The other images show different scenes from the movie, including one of Elizabeth, Ron, and Ibrahim standing next to a clue board. Another image is a night sH๏τ of Elizabeth looking down at something with a flashlight in her hand, while the final image has Ibrahim and Joyce standing on either side of Naomi Ackie’s PC Donna De Freitas. What This Means For The Thursday Murder Club

A Strong Cast & Great Story Should Make This A Netflix Classic

With a stellar cast peppered by great actors that also includes David Tennant, Richard E. Grant, Paul Freeman, and Jonathan Pryce, The Thursday Murder Club certainly has strong talent involved. The movie’s cast, combined with the engrossing and clever murder mystery plot, could make this an instant Netflix classic. The images show a colorful and realistic setting, filled with characters who are clearly unique and diverse, and there’s a good chance the movie will look to remain as faithful to the source material as possible.

Murder mystery movies are big business again, with Kenneth Brannagh’s Poirot adaptations achieving success, and the upcoming sequel Knives Out 3 tipped for success. Netflix will have high hopes for The Thursday Murder Club, and, given that Osman has already penned four novels in the series, there is certainly scope for adapting all the books and creating a strong murder mystery franchise for the platform. The strength of the material has been a big part in helping attract top talent to the movie, and this bodes well for the future of the franchise.

Netflix has been ramping up its original content in recent years, with varying degrees of success, but this is an adaptation that should be a big hit for the streaming giants. The cast are all seasoned pros, many of whom have worked together before, and, per Netflix Tudum, Columbus has even called it the best cast he’s worked with since Harry Potter. A clever and well put-together murder mystery in the English countryside should prove a big hit, and there are many reasons to get excited about The Thursday Murder Club and what the future might hold on streaming.
