“He Takes Big Swings”: Chris Evans Addresses Sebastian Stan’s Career Outside Marvel

Sebastian Stan has taken on some challenging projects outside Marvel, and his MCU co-star, Chris Evans, has commented on his non-superhero acting career. Stan and Evans shared the screen as Captain America and the Winter Soldier in the MCU for 8 years, starting in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. While Evans retired the role of Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame, Stan continues to play Bucky and will reprise the role in Thunderbolts*.

However, Stan returns to the MCU with an impressive accomplishment. He received his first Academy Award nomination for his role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice. It was the latest in several high-profile roles for Stan, including Pam & Tommy and A Different Man, the latter of which earned him a Golden Globe award. Speaking with Vanity Fair, Evans addressed Stan’s “fearless” decision-making, including his choice to play Trump.

“Sebastian has always been really fearless. You can see that in his choices. He takes big swings. When that Trump movie was kicking around, I remember thinking, I wonder who is going to take this job? It’s just got so many strings attached to it. And I was so unsurprised when I heard it was Sebastian.”

What Chris Evans’ Comments About Sebastian Stan’s Career Outside Marvel Mean

Evans is also mainly known for his Marvel role, but has a stellar career outside the superhero genre. He’s starred in several excellent films, like Knives Out, Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World, and Snowpiercer. However, Evans has never taken on a role as challenging or scandalous as Trump. The Apprentice follows Trump during his rise as a New York City real estate mogul in the 1970s and 1980s. While the film and Stan’s performance received praise from critics and audiences, it also sparked controversy due to the film’s portrayal of the current U.S. president and his relationship with attorney Roy Cohn.

Despite the controversy, Stan still got an Oscar nomination for his role, and it’s one he truly deserved. Evans’ comment that he was “unsurprised” that Stan took the part shows Evans recognizes that Stan enjoys taking risks in his career. He always delivers when he plays Bucky, but it’s good to see how far he can go with certain roles and that he isn’t afraid of receiving backlash.

Our Take On Chris Evans’ Comments About Sebastian Stan’s Career Outside Marvel

Sebastian Stan looks curious in Fresh

Evans’ comments about Stan’s career are accurate but not only because of his Trump portrayal. Stan’s performance in A Different Man as a man who cured himself of a facial disfigurement is arguably just as masterful, capturing a character that embodies so many complicated emotions. He also played a charming but horrifying villain in 2022’s Fresh, demonstrating how far his range stretches. While many recognize Stan for his role as Bucky in the MCU, he deserves the same amount of recognition for his non-superhero roles.
