Star Wars Reveals How Big An AT-AT Really Is On The Inside

Star Wars has revealed just how big the inside of an Imperial AT-AT walker is for the first time on-screen. Exclusive footage from the upcoming Mandalorian and Grogu movie has offered a new look at the new adventures that are on the way for Din Djarin and his adopted son. This looks to include sabotaging walkers belonging to the Imperial Remnant during the New Republic.

Releasing in 2026, The Mandalorian and Grogu is set to be the first Star Wars movie to release in theaters since 2019’s Rise of Skywalker. To that end, exclusive new footage of the movie was released at Star Wars Celebration 2025, one that showed Din Djarin impressively taking down Imperial forces, connecting with the end of The Mandalorian season 3, where it was established that Djarin would start working jobs for New Republic bases in the Outer Rim. As such, The Mandalorian’s new big-screen conflict shows just how big an AT-AT truly is on the inside.

In the exclusive Mandalorian and Grogu footage released at Star Wars Celebration 2025, Din Djarin is shown infiltrating a trio of Imperial walkers on an icy cliffside. What follows is an impressive one-sH๏τ as Djarin enters from the back of the AT-AT walker, taking out multiple snowtroopers being transported inside the ᴀssault craft. As The Mandalorian nears the front cockpit of the AT-AT, it quickly becomes apparent just how big the iconic Imperial walker truly is.

To be specific, Din Djarin is shown fighting over 10 different snowtroopers inside the AT-AT, and there’s plenty of room to spare. The footage then continues, as one of the walkers is rigged to explode and blows up, careening off the side of the cliff presumably thanks to Djarin. The Empire Strikes Back’s Luke Skywalker would undoubtedly be proud.

How Big Is An AT-AT?

Over 20 Meters Tall

AT-AT Walker Cross Section Cockpit Star Wars

According to the established Star Wars canon, the basic model Imperial AT-AT is just over 20 meters tall. In visual dictionaries like Star Wars: Complete Vehicles with its impressive cross-sections or even LEGO’s detailed UCS Imperial Walker, it’s been confirmed that the AT-AT can hold up to 40 troopers, 2 deck officers, 1 pilot, 1 gunner, and a commander. Likewise, the AT-AT also has room for up to 4 speeder bikes, 1 metric ton of cargo, and 2 AT-STs (disᴀssembled). That said, it’s one thing to read and see renderings on a page, and another to actually see characters operating inside an AT-AT for the first time on-screen.

The Mandalorian & Grogu Gives Us The First Live-Action AT-AT Walker Fights Since The Original Trilogy

Bringing A Classic Imperial Vehicle To The New Republic Era

Beyond the chance to see the inside of an AT-AT for the first time, it’s also just exciting to see that we’re going to get all-new walker action in the Star Wars timeline thanks to The Mandalorian and Grogu. After all, the last time we saw Imperial walkers in live-action was in The Empire Strikes Back during the Battle of H๏τh and in Return of the Jedi. Even then, Return of the Jedi only had a brief sH๏τ of an AT-AT on Endor while the bulk of the action was focused on the smaller, more agile AT-STs.

The Mandalorian and Grogu releases in theaters on May 22nd, 2026.
