Weapons Trailer: Runaway Children Have Never Seemed So Terrifying In Zach Cregger’s Barbarian Follow-Up

Weapons

‘ first trailer is here, teasing a terrifying film about runaway children. Marking writer and director Zach Cregger’s follow-up to Barbarian (2022), the upcoming horror film has been said to chronicle a series of interrelated stories around the disappearance of children in the small town of Maybrook. The Weapons cast features a number of notable stars, including Josh Brolin, Julia Garner, Benedict Wong, Alden Ehrenreich, and Austin Abrams, with marketing thus far being careful not to reveal too much about what’s to come from the mysterious project.

Warner Bros. now shares the first teaser trailer for Weapons, providing a new look at Cregger’s upcoming horror movie. The teaser keeps the mystery surrounding the movie alive, choosing to show a handful of children running away from their homes at 2:17am before they eventually join together and run across a front yard into the night. Though Brolin doesn’t appear on-screen, he is seemingly included in the voiceover for the trailer, questioning why these kids are running away while under no signs of duress. Check out the teaser trailer below:

The teaser also ends with text that encourages those looking for more information to visit MaybrookMissing.com, an in-universe website that features additional footage of children running away from home.

What This Means For Weapons

The Teaser Could Reveal More About Josh Brolin’s Character

The latest Weapons teaser trailer doesn’t reveal what or who is making these children run away from their homes at the same time in the middle of the night, and it’s possible that audiences will need to see the movie to find out. The trailer does hint at some new story details, though. If that is Brolin’s voice, for example, he could be playing a character whose last name is Graff, who is seemingly the father of one of these missing children.

It’s not clear who the first voice belongs to, but the dialogue confirms that it’s not a parent of a missing child. It could be a member of law enforcement investigating the disappearances, hinting that Weapons could partially unfold from a police point of view, in addition to the point of view of the parents. Beyond that, not much is revealed, but it is notable that all the children shown in the teaser are running with their arms outstretched like wings, which could end up being significant in the film.

Our Take On The Weapons Teaser Trailer

Barbarian Set Expectations High

In an age where it seems like trailers often reveal too much, the new look at Weapons is a refreshing change. It is just a teaser trailer, though, and more will surely be revealed in the full-length trailers that are still to come. So far, however, Weapons is looking like an interesting follow-up to the well-received Barbarian, which announced Cregger as a major voice in the world of horror after earning positive reviews and becoming a box office success.

Currently, it’s not clear just how supernatural Weapons‘ story will be, but Barbarian‘s narrative twists and turns suggest that Cregger is up for the task when it comes to crafting unexpected horror experiences.

In movies built around a central mystery or question, the challenging part is always delivering an explanation that actually meets or exceeds the terrifying explanations that audiences themselves imagine. Currently, it’s not clear just how supernatural Weapons‘ story will be, but Barbarian‘s narrative twists and turns suggest that Cregger is up for the task when it comes to crafting unexpected horror experiences. Many questions remain about Weapons, but the latest teaser trailer is sure to only increase anticipation.
