Sue Storm’s Pregnancy In The Fantastic Four: First Steps Offers The Perfect Way To Bring Back An Important MCU Character

The surprising reveal that Susan Storm is pregnant in The Fantastic Four: First Steps teases the introduction of a major Marvel character, which in turn allows one iconic performance to return to the MCU timeline. The MCU’s The Fantastic Four: First Steps brings Marvel’s First Family officially to the MCU. The trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps has sparked a wave of excitement and speculation thanks to a surprising revelation: Sue Storm is pregnant, a twist with long-reaching consequences.

The official trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps finally offers a full look at the MCU’s version of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, and Ben Grimm. With a retro-futuristic aesthetic and clear inspiration from Jack Kirby’s original designs, Marvel Studios seems committed to doing the Fantastic Four justice. However, the biggest surprise isn’t a villain reveal or a multiverse tease – it’s that Sue Storm, aka the Invisible Woman, is expecting a child.

Sue Storm Is Pregnant In The Fantastic Four: First Steps

The Official Trailer For The Fantastic Four: First Steps Has Revealed A Lot

The Fantastic Four- First Steps-9

In the trailer for The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Sue Storm and Reed Richards tell the rest of the team that they’re pregnant. Subsequent scenes depict Sue as around six or eight months into her pregnancy, suggesting a time jump which nears her due date. For comic book readers, this is a huge development, as it means Franklin Richards is coming to the MCU.

Franklin is the son of Reed and Sue, and his birth has long been a milestone event in Marvel Comics. But what makes this more than just a nod to comic book continuity is the potential ripple effect his arrival could have across the MCU. If Marvel is planting seeds for Franklin now, they’re setting the stage for some major cosmic and mutant-level storytelling in the near future. It also opens the door for a beloved MCU character to return.

Agatha Harkness Is Franklin’s Former Nanny

Franklin Richard’s Introduction Could Allow Agatha To Return

In Marvel Comics, Franklin Richards’ power is so immense that his safety and control become top priorities. With the Fantastic Four themselves engaged in world-saving missions, Reed and Sue hire a highly unusual nanny: Agatha Harkness. Agatha was originally introduced in Marvel Comics as Franklin’s governess, years before her complicated mentorship with Wanda Maximoff.

If The Fantastic Four: First Steps leads to Franklin’s birth, it’s only a matter of time before the MCU needs someone capable of handling a cosmic-level mutant toddler. A younger version of Agatha Harkness could be introduced as Franklin’s nanny in a potential First Steps sequel or another future MCU project. This would allow Agatha’s backstory to be fleshed out in a meaningful way while offering Hahn the chance to reprise her role with depth and purpose.

Agatha’s actions during the 1960s and 1970s were fleetingly hinted at in Agatha All Along and becoming Franklin’s governess could be another avenue for Hahn’s Harkness to return. Agatha All Along ends with Agatha returning from the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ as a ghost, setting up a future project where she helps Billy Maximoff find his brother. Yet Franklin’s surprise introduction opened up this unexpected possibility.

Franklin Richards Is A Huge Marvel Character

Franklin Richards Has Immense Superpowers

Franklin Richards isn’t just a side character – he’s a mᴀssive deal in Marvel lore. Born with reality-warping powers that rival some of the most powerful beings in the universe, Franklin is classified as an Omega-level mutant. His abilities include manipulating matter, creating pocket universes, and even altering the very fabric of reality. He’s essentially a child god with the innocence and naivety of youth – which makes him both a compelling and dangerous character.

Franklin’s mutant status is also key. The MCU has been slowly introducing mutants over the past few years, including Kamala Khan, who was revealed as one in Ms. Marvel. Several of Fox’s X-Men cast have also appeared, with numerous classic performances scheduled for a return in Avengers: Doomsday – including Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and James Marsden.

Franklin’s inclusion adds yet another layer, potentially linking the Fantastic Four to the mutant evolution storyline that is beginning to take shape. Both the X-Men’s introduction and the Fantastic Four’s is expected to involve some sort of time travel or multiverse-traversing. Franklin Richards neatly connects the two, possibly offering a way for both major teams to be integrated into the main MCU.

Introducing Franklin now also tees up a potential Young Avengers or future-mutant team project. His friendships with characters like Speed, Wiccan, and other young heroes in the comics could lead to a new generation of superheroes – one forged in the aftermath of multiversal chaos and mutant emergence. All of this has suddenly become possible with the small detail of Sue Storm’s pregnancy in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
