Final Destination Bloodlines’ Death Rule Twist Means I Can Never Watch The Movies The Same Way Again

The Final Destination franchise is coming back with its sixth movie, Final Destination Bloodlines, which is changing Death’s rules with a twist, thanks to which the entire franchise might change. One of the latest additions to the trend of reboots and long-awaited sequels is the Final Destination franchise, which ended in 2011 with the surprise prequel Final Destination 5. The sixth movie, directed by Zach Lipovsky and Adam Stein, will follow the same premise as the previous movies, but with a twist to Death’s rules.

Final Destination Bloodlines follows Stefani (Kaitlyn Santa Juana), a college student who begins to be haunted by nightmares about her family’s deaths. Stefani returns home to ask her grandmother, Iris (Gabrielle Rose), for help, as she went through something similar in the 1960s. Iris had a vision of a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly disaster and saved many people, but now Death is coming for the survivors’ descendants. This twist might change the entire Final Destination saga, and I won’t watch the movies the same way again.

Final Destination Bloodlines Is Seemingly Retconning The Franchise’s Death Rules

Final Destination Bloodlines Is Making A Big Change To The Known Rules

Throughout five movies, the Final Destination saga established that Death can’t be cheated, and it will always come back for those who escaped from it. This is why the survivors of the bridge, Flight 180, the pile-up on U.S. Route 23, the carnival, and the car race all died in bizarre ways (except for two characters), but Bloodlines might be about to change all this. As mentioned above, Iris had a vision in the 1960s of a ᴅᴇᴀᴅly disaster in a high-rise restaurant, and though she warned everyone, she could only save some of the attendees.

However, it seems like they all carried on with their lives without Death coming after them, but their time has now come. The trailers for Final Destination Bloodlines reveal that Death is now coming for the descendants of the survivors of the 1960s accident, as they should never have been born. This has raised many questions about what this change in Death’s rules could mean for the previous Final Destination movies, and it has been theorized that they are all linked to the 1960s disaster.

This would mean that, if not all the survivors in the past movies, at least those who had the visions were descendants of the survivors of the 1960s disaster. Maybe Death doesn’t like to be constantly cheated by the same people, and giving them visions and making them save others is a way of torturing them before claiming their lives for something that isn’t even their fault, and probably weren’t even aware of.

Linking All Final Destination Characters To Just One Event Is Dangerous (But Interesting)

It Would Solve Many Mysteries But Create Others

The Final Destination movies so far have followed the same basic premise and Death’s rules, with each movie adding more to them. However, they have also made the biggest franchise mysteries even bigger, such as who really is Tony Todd’s William Bludworth and why these people had those visions of the initial accident. As mentioned above, Bloodlines could be about to link all the movies and accidents through the 1960s disaster, which is a dangerous move.

The mystery of the origin of the visions and why they happened to these specific characters is a big part of what makes the Final Destination movies so entertaining and intriguing. Surely, linking them to the 1960s accident solves all questions and is still a fitting explanation, but it leaves no more mystery and completely changes how you watch the first five movies.

On the other hand, linking all Final Destination movies like this is interesting as it gives a proper backstory to them and the characters involved. Bloodlines might be about to expand the Final Destination lore, which can make Death more terrifying and more difficult to cheat, but it also risks being underwhelming and changing the previous movies in the worst way.

What Final Destination Bloodlines’ Family Twist Really Means For The Franchise

The Final Destination Franchise Might Never Be The Same

One of the most interesting things about Final Destination Bloodlines is that it’s turning Death into a generational curse. This is completely new to the franchise, but goes on to show that Death doesn’t have just one way of operating, and it can be a lot crueler than it seems. This also means that Death has been waiting years to claim those lives, as now it will be more painful and tragic for the 1960s survivors because they will see their loved ones die in the most bizarre ways.

Of course, the biggest question now will be why Iris had a vision of the accident at the restaurant, but hopefully, Final Destination Bloodlines will solve this. Final Destination Bloodlines might be on its way to solving all major franchise mysteries by bringing everything together, which will completely change the experience of watching these movies, though whether it’s for good or bad is to be seen.
