Ryan Gosling Comments On Joining Star Wars, Hypes Up Original Story & Characters

The star of Shawn Levy’s upcoming Star Wars movie has been confirmed at Star Wars Celebration. Ryan Gosling was previously reported to have been cast in the highly anticipated project that was rumored to have been set after the events of The Rise of Skywalker. Anora star and Academy Award winner Mikey Madison was also reported to have been considered for Levy’s Star Wars movie, but she ultimately pᴀssed on the role that was offered to her.

At a Star Wars Celebration panel, where ScreenRant‘s Molly Brizzell is in attendance, it has been confirmed that Gosling will star in Levy’s movie, which will have the тιтle Star Wars: Starfighter. The upcoming film will be released on May 28, 2027, the 50th anniversary year of when the original Star Wars movie was first released. Starfighter is confirmed to be set five years after The Rise of Skywalker and will be a standalone story. Gosling appeared on stage alongside Levy, where he expressed his enthusiasm for the movie, and teased his brand-new character. Check out Gosling’s comments below:

It’s probably framed my idea of what a movie even was. This script is just so good. It has such a great story with great and original characters. It’s filled with so much heart and adventure.

Ryan Gosling Will Play A Character Everyone Can Enjoy

Gosling potentially joining Star Wars was already one of the most exciting casting rumors in the franchise’s history. It is now even more exciting to have the A-list star’s casting confirmed and to know that he will definitely be joining the galaxy far, far away. As for who Gosling will be playing, that is still being kept under wraps. However, Gosling mentions “great and original characters” and Levy says that Starfighter “features a collection of all new characters.”

Gosling playing a new character will help make Starfighter an accessible movie for all audiences, regardless of how much they know about other Star Wars shows and movies. His enthusiasm for the script speaks volumes about his faith in the project and will help convince a wide range of audiences that the movie is worth seeing, even for those who may not be familiar with Star Wars. This is one of the many benefits that comes with Gosling’s extensive star power.

Our Take On Ryan Gosling’s Star Casting & Comments

It Is Another Milestone In His Impressive Career

As a lifelong Star Wars fan and as someone who has been following Gosling’s career since he starred in 2000’s Remember the тιтans, I am thrilled to see him officially joining Star Wars and to have him leave his mark on a new character. Between Remember the тιтans, Half Nelson, Blade Runner 2049, Barbie, and every movie Gosling has been in, he always excels at his roles, and I have no doubt that he will deliver another unforgettable performance in Starfighter. Having Gosling at the forefront of the movie will help the 2027 Star Wars story have a wider reach.
