Jensen Ackles would be a great addition to the new DC Universe, as the actor would be an interesting choice for many characters who could end up as part of the franchise. Over the past couple of years, Ackles has become probably the most commented choice among fans for the role of Batman in the DCU’s Chapter One and beyond. However, that is not the only role the actor could be great for, as Ackles has a nice range.
While he has given life to plenty of dark characters throughout his career, one of the actor’s strongest skills lies in his comedic timing. This makes Ackles a double threat for any DCU role, allowing the star to play a wide range of characters in DC’s upcoming movies. Although he might have his sights on leading Batman’s The Brave and the Bold movie, if that does not happen, Ackles could join the DCU through other exciting characters.

Batman
The DCU Hero Ackles Is The Fan-Favorite For
While there are plenty of DC characters the actor would be perfect for, it is impossible not to start the list with Batman. The Supernatural star has made it clear that he wants to give life to Bruce Wayne on the big screen, letting it be known in interviews that Batman is his favorite superhero. What could be playing against him is his age, as Ackles is 47, while the DCU’s Superman, David Corenswet, is 31.
That said, Ackles would be a fantastic Dark Knight. Supernatural‘s Dean Winchester was a hero with a tragic past who thrived in the darkness, much like Batman. In The Boys, Ackles showed his fighting skills as a live-action hero. Finally, the actor has already played Batman before, voicing Bruce Wayne in two solo movies and multiple Justice League entries in the animated Tomorrowverse, showing how he would be perfect as the DCU’s Batman.

Green Arrow
Ackles’ Balance Of Humor And Drama Can Be Used For The Hero
If Ackles does not end up playing the DCU’s Batman, perhaps the next best choice would be for him to become Oliver Queen, aka Green Arrow. There are some similarities between the DC heroes, with Stephen Amell’s Arrow showing how Oliver can be made very close to Bruce Wayne personality-wise if needed. That said, James Gunn’s DCU is going for a tone more rooted in the comics.

As such, whenever Green Arrow comes to the franchise, he should have his signature brand of humor. Ackles has shown with Dean Winchester in Supernatural that he can balance a dramatic performance with plenty of hilarious comedic moments. Green Arrow needs that balance. Ackles would be able to make Oliver Queen a quick-witted character who always has a sarcastic remark to make while being able to dial it up to a more serious tone when the situation asks for it.

John Constantine
DC’s Hellblazer Will Get A New Movie Outside The DCU
John Constantine would be quite an interesting role for the actor. It would allow Ackles to tap into a hero whose morality can be more fluid than that of someone like Batman or Green Arrow. That said, Constantine is a character rooted in darkness but who has a dry sense of humor. As such, Ackles would be able to make DC’s Hellblazer pop on the big screen.
Keanu Reeves is developing Constantine 2, but the movie is an Elseworlds project, allowing another actor to play John Constantine in the DCU.
The only problem with that casting is that Ackles is not British. However, if he can pull off a fitting accent, then it should not be much of an issue. Ackles has the skills to make Constantine a recurring DCU character that adds a sense of unpredictability to every scene he is in. The actor’s past roles show that he would succeed in making Constantine a somewhat arrogant hero who has a softer side that captivates the audience.

Booster Gold
Jensen Ackles’ TV Background & Comedic Talents Can Be Put To Good Use
While Green Arrow could be the DCU role that allows Ackles to balance comedy and drama the best, the actor would be able to really let his comedic skills shine as Booster Gold. The DC hero from the future is one of the characters confirmed to have a solo project in the DCU’s Chapter One. With his vast experience on the TV side, Ackles could make HBO’s Booster Gold series a success.
There are several episodes of Supernatural that show how Ackles was born to play a role like Booster Gold at some point in his career. He can be really silly when needed, with the star having the skills to make Booster a character with many layers. The humor will be hilarious, making the quieter moments when he peels back on the hero’s layers shine, showing how Booster carries a lot of heartbreak.

Midnighter
An Interesting Alternative To His Desired DCU Role
Ackles has made it clear that Batman is the hero he wants to play in the DCU. However, if he ends up being too old for what Gunn has in mind for the role or is not cast for another reason, then Midnighter would be the perfect alternative to Bruce Wayne. Initially from WildStorm, Midnighter is pretty much the publisher’s version of Batman, with a similar look and fighting style.
Midnighter is expected to be part of the DCU’s announced The Authority movie, though the project is on the back burner for now.
However, the character is much more violent than the Dark Knight, which is saying something. Midnighter is expected to be part of the DCU’s announced The Authority movie, though the project is on the back burner for now. A talent like Ackles could help put things back on track. As Soldier Boy in The Boys, Ackles showed that he has what it takes to play a serious and hyper-violent hero. His Midnighter could be the “Batman who kills” for the DCU.

Deathstroke
There Are Multiple Possible DC Movies For Slade Wilson’s DCU Debut
While Ackles is frequently fancast for DCU heroes, the actor also has the skills to bring a few major DC villains to life. Perhaps the best choice for him in that regard is Deathstroke. The mercenary should be part of the franchise, as Gunn teased on social media he has plans for Deathstroke, and with both a Teen тιтans movie in the works and a reported Deathstroke & Bane film, Slade Wilson’s debut should come soon.

Ackles’ role as Soldier Boy in The Boys shows that he can be a frightening force in the superhero genre. When he is allowed to let loose and portray characters with incredible strength and twisted morals, Ackles can turn in magnetic performances. At 47, he would be at a good age for Deathstroke. Ackles could add the gravitas and sense of danger Slade Wilson needs.

Sgt. Rock
One Of The Unique Entries Planned For The DCU
Luca Guadagnino is a director known for dramatic movies that become favorites every awards season. Interestingly, the director has chosen to partner with DC, and that led to Sgt. Rock. The DCU could have a World War II-era franchise on its hands if the movie performs well, and after Daniel Craig reportedly pᴀssed on the тιтle role, the studio seems to have moved on to The Penguin‘s Colin Farrell.
However, with the actor set to continue as Oz Cobb in The Batman universe, perhaps a fresh face would be better for the DCU. Ackles can bring the hard edge that is needed for the war hero. The actor would also be game to continue playing a character like Sgt. Rock for multiple movies and perhaps other DCU appearances, something the other two candidates might not.
3
Aquaman
A Member Of The Justice League That Should Be Closer To The Comics
If Ackles does not get his dream of playing Batman, there is another major hero he could play to join the DCU’s Justice League. DCEU Aquaman star Jason Momoa is one of the few actors from the franchise to continue in the new DC Universe. However, Momoa is now playing Lobo, debuting in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, which leaves the Aquaman role free for someone to take.
As the DCEU went for a very different take on the character, Ackles would be perfect to bring an Aquaman closer to the comics to life. Not only does he look like the hero, but the actor could play the regal version of Arthur Curry perfectly. Ackles has the skills to mix the level-headed Aquaman from the comics with Momoa’s more outlandish portrayal in the DCEU, bringing the best of both worlds.

Adam Strange
The DCU’s Cosmic Pocket Could Gain A Mᴀssive Story
DC Comics writer Tom King is one of the creatives helping Gunn with the DCU’s overall story and planning. He has been involved since the start of the franchise, with his epic version of Supergirl being put on screen in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow. Since one of the writer’s most beloved series from the comics is already in the DCU, it is possible that more could follow.
One of the best Tom King comics to adapt is Strange Adventures. The story would allow the DCU to have an expansive cosmic adventure that establishes more of the franchise’s history and goes into superheroes’ moral codes. Ackles is a perfect fit for Adam Strange, being able to play the happier, heroic version of the character and the grim, disillusioned Strange that are both key to the story.

Mister Miracle
Jensen Ackles Can Tap Into His Past Emotional Performances
Finally, another of Tom King’s limited series from DC Comics could lead to a fantastic hero for Ackles to play. The DCEU tried to get a New Gods movie off the ground, but the project never materialized. As such, there is a deep well of powerful characters with rich lore that the DCU could put on the big screen for the first time. Mister Miracle is at the top of the list.
Scott Free is an easy-to-love character who has ties to Darkseid himself, allowing Ackles to play a prominent role in the DCU. In the Mister Miracle series by King, the character’s idenтιтy, memories, and life in general were tested as the hero battled with depression. Ackles’ past roles have shown he would excel at such a complex plot, delivering an emotional performance that could make Mister Miracle a DCU fan-favorite and one of Jensen Ackles‘ best roles.

DC Universe
The DC Universe is one of the biggest comic book franchises and often competes with Marvel. DC Comics started as National Allied Publications, founded by Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson in 1935. Since then, the franchise has exploded with thousands of comic books, movies, TV shows, and video games. 2013 marked the beginning of the most recent iteration of the superheroes, with Zack Snyder introducing Henry Cavill as Superman. After several movies with mixed reviews, DC underwent a soft reboot under the helm of James Gunn and Peter Safran.
