How Big MCU Galactus Is Vs. Hulk, Celestials And Other Marvel Characters

The second The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer provides a clearer look at the MCU’s Galactus, whose full size is among the greatest in the franchise. The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ second trailer reveals a few new details about the movie, including Julia Garner’s Silver Surfer, Reed Richard’s stretching powers, and Sue Storm’s pregnancy. The second trailer also features a new sH๏τ of Galactus, though the Devourer of Worlds’ full look may only be unveiled once The Fantastic Four: First Steps arrives in theaters in July.

The Fantastic Four: First Steps marks the first time Galactus’ original appearance will be translated to live-action faithfully. Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer follows a similar storyline, but its Galactus adaptation is infamously inaccurate, as it looks and behaves like a cosmic cloud instead of an anthropomorphic cosmic enтιтy with a consciousness of its own. While large, the MCU’s Galactus is far from a planet-sized character in The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ trailers, but his size is actually faithful to the source material.

How Tall MCU Galactus Is In The Fantastic Four: First Steps

Galactus’ Size In The MCU Is Similar In His Marvel Comics Debut

The shadow cast by Galactus’ head in the first and second The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailers stretches from the Financial District up toward Midtown (4.5 miles / 7.24 km). The angle of the sunlight makes calculations variable, but ᴀssuming the angle ranges from 10° to 15°, the size of Galactus’ head may range from 0.75 miles to 1.2 miles (1.2km – 1.9km). That means that Galactus’ full body in this sH๏τ could be around 12 miles (19km) — close to the entire length of Manhattan and roughly three times larger than Mt. Everest. However, The Fantastic Four: First Steps‘ second trailer confirms that Galactus is able to size-shift.

As the trailers suggest, Galactus will shrink gradually as he arrives in New York, possibly going from planet-sized to city-sized to skyscraper-sized

The second The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer includes a new sH๏τ of Galactus’ feet as he walks through the city. In this sH๏τ, Galactus is much smaller than he appears to be in the first sH๏τ of his shadow. Taking into account the length of an average Manhattan building (150 ft / 45.7 m), and ᴀssuming Galactus’ foot length is roughly 15% of his height, Galactus would stand approximately 1,000 feet tall (304.8 meters) in this sH๏τ. That means Galactus might stand just a bit shorter than the Empire State Building as he walks through New York.

In the first The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, Galactus can be seen walking beside the Statue of Liberty. Considering the Statue of Liberty stands at 305 ft (93 m) and it reaches Galactus’ upper torso in this sH๏τ, then Galactus would be five to six times the Statue of Liberty’s total height — 1525 to 1830 ft (464 to 557 m). As the trailers suggest, Galactus will shrink gradually as he arrives in New York, possibly going from planet-sized to city-sized to skyscraper-sized. Measuring roughly the same as the Baxter Building in his final state, Galactus would still be larger than he was in his comic book appearance.

How Galactus Compares To The Tallest MCU Characters

Galactus May Be The Second Biggest MCU Villain Introduced So Far

The sH๏τ where Galactus appears at his biggest in The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailers makes him the third largest MCU character after Ego, whose planet form may be the same size as the Earth; and the Celestials, who stand at approximately 200 miles (483 km) tall. As Galactus shrinks, he would match the Avengers Tower’s 1,130 ft (344m). In his final state, a 1,000 ft tall Galactus would be taller than large characters such as Giant Man (65 ft / 20m) and Eitri (12 ft / 3.6 m). Of course, interdimensional enтιтies like Eternity, Dormammu, and the Living Tribunal are not included in these measurements, as their size is too vague.

In The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Galactus may first show up in his natural size, several times larger than Earth, before shrinking in order to interact with the Fantastic Four. It’s important to note that Galactus usually doesn’t consume planets like a regular person would eat a meal. Instead of ingesting planets through his mouth, Galactus absorbs their energy, destroying them in the process. Galactus also doesn’t need to be larger than a planet in order to consume it. He can drain a planet’s energy while standing on it, regardless of his current size.

How MCU Galactus’s Height Compares To The Marvel Comics

Galactus’ Smallest Size From The Comics Is Even Smaller Than His MCU Counterpart’s

In his earliest comic book appearances, Galactus seemed to be two to two-and-a-half times the size of characters like the Thing and Thor while fighting or speaking with them. Over the years, Galactus’ smallest size has increased, limiting himself to the size of a skyscraper as he interacts with other Marvel characters. At his biggest, Galactus has been able to hold entire planets in the palm of his hand. The Fantastic Four: First Steps may reduce this range a little, but Galactus’ fluctuating size seems to be accurate.
