“Uh, I Think I Just Saw A Floater”: Kevin Bacon Recalls How A Real ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Body Was Found During Filming Of His 1998 Crime Thriller

Kevin Bacon recalls finding a “floater” on the set of his 1998 crime thriller. The versatile actor has diverse acting credits, with many being in horror тιтles, including Friday the 13th, Footloose, and A24’s recent Maxxxine, which stars Mia Goth in the тιтle role alongside Sophie Thatcher, Giancarlo Esposito, and Michelle Monaghan, among others. He also played Command Module Pilot Jack Swigert in the critically acclaimed Apollo 13 and the supervillain Sebastian Shaw in the 2011 movie X-Men: First Class.

He recently appeared as the тιтular character in Prime Video’s supernatural action series, The Bondsman, where he plays a murdered bounty hunter who becomes Satan’s new recruit, putting his tracking skills to good use by hunting down and killing escaped demons. Kevin Bacon Recounts Finding A “Floater” On The Wild Things Set

A ᴅᴇᴀᴅ Body Was Found During Production

Starring Denise Richards and Neve Campbell, the 1998 crime thriller, Wild Things, followed teenager Kelly (Richards), who conspired in a scandal involving her guidance counselor, Sam (Matt Dillon), which resulted in him being arrested. Kelly’s classmate, Suzie (Campbell), made a similar accusation shortly after this. Bacon played Detective Ray Duquette, who suspected foul play and uncovered the truth was far from what it seemed.

In an interview with Variety, Bacon recalled seeing a ᴅᴇᴀᴅ body on the Wild Things set during filming. The actor shared that they were filming a scene “in the swamp one night” when they spotted “a body” floating by, which was “kind of indicative of the vibe of the movie.” Check out his comments below:

We were out in the swamp one night — a lot of mosquitoes, wow — and we were shooting some scene, I don’t remember what it was, by kind of a river. They had floated a raft out there so that they could put out a light. All of a sudden I hear across the walkie-talkie: ‘Hey, uh, I think I just saw a floater.’ And it was a body that was floating by,” the actor continued. “It was kind of indicative of the vibe of the movie.

Wild Things Is An Eerie Tale On And Off Camera

Director John McNaughton has previously revealed that the discovery of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ body in the Everglades halted production and led to a police investigation. From pre-production to the casting and the financing of the movie, Wild Things suffered several issues along the way. McNaughton recalled reading the script for the first time and almost didn’t pick up the project because he thought it was bad. However, the more he read it, the more he discovered, much like the movie’s suspenseful plot.

Interestingly, before starring in Marvel movies, Robert Downey Jr. was originally eyed for the role of the guidance counselor due to his scandalous history with drugs, but his casting was viewed as an insurance risk, which prompted a recast. Bacon’s recounting of the discovery of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ body certainly adds more to Wild Things‘ eerie backstory.
