The cast of The Breakfast Club has reunited for the first time in 40 years. The John Hughes classic came out in 1985, first introducing audiences to the eclectic group of high school rebels stuck in Saturday detention. The film’s leading quintet, all part of the decade’s “Brat Pack,” was played by Molly Ringwald, Judd Nelson, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, and Anthony Michael Hall. The coming-of-age drama has remained one of the most beloved films of its time in the decades since its release. Hughes’ legacy, which includes films like Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and Sixteen Candles, also remains beloved.
In a video from the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, The Breakfast Club cast has its first full reunion. The event brought together Nelson, Estevez, Sheedy, Ringwald, and Hall. The reunion was shared in a post that included a video of the stars walking onto a stage to ᴀssume panel chairs. The caption noted that this was “the first-ever full cast reunion of The Breakfast Club.”

What This Means For The Breakfast Club Cast
They Went In Separate Directions
The fact that this was the first full Breakfast Club reunion since the film’s release highlights the fact that the original actors never did a movie all together again. Playing high school archetypes (e.g. The Brain and The Athlete) with more complexity behind them than their initial roles would indicate, the ensemble gelled so well together in the original movie. They worked in tandem with Hughes’ directorial vision, making members of the cast — like Hall, who worked with Hughes again on Weird Science — fit well into this world. This makes their reunion more exciting, as they have not come together on screen.
All five Brat Pack actors ended up taking different paths in continuing their careers. After Weird Science and a series of other roles, Hall more recently took on a villain role in Reacher season 3. Ringwald played the lead in the Hughes-written film Pretty in Pink, and more recently played the role of Joanne Carson in Feud. Sheedy played a part in Short Circuit later in the decade, as well as other occasional TV roles. Nelson’s other notable roles include a part in St. Elmo’s Fire (with Estevez and Ringwald), and Estevez was in The Mighty Ducks.
Our Take On The Breakfast Club Reunion
Could A Remake Happen?
As The Breakfast Club team comes back together, it is interesting to think about whether the beloved film will ever be remade for a modern audience. Just last year, Hall was quoted saying that the film could be “remade in the future.” The star said a similar thing about Weird Science. In an era heavy on remakes, it would be interesting to see what a redone The Breakfast Club would look like, and how it would capture the spirit of the Brat Pack.
