The Brutalist Streaming Release Date Revealed For Adrien Brody’s Oscar Winner

The Brutalist‘s streaming release date has been revealed. Directed by Brady Corbet, who co-wrote the script with his wife Mona Fastvold, A24’s epic period drama stars Adrien Brody as László Tóth, a Hungarian-born Jewish architect and Holocaust survivor who immigrates to the United States, but struggles to achieve the American Dream until a wealthy client changes his life. The Brutalist‘s cast also includes Felicity Jones, Guy Pearce, Joe Alwyn, Raffey Cᴀssidy, Stacy Martin, Emma Laird, Isaach de Bankolé, and Alessandro Nivola.

Now, months after releasing in theaters, the Oscar-winning film’s streaming release date has been revealed. The Brutalist will be available to stream on Max starting on May 16. The film will also debut linearly on the HBO cable channel on May 17 at 8:00 p.m. ET. The Brutalist has been available to buy or rent on digital platforms since February 18.

What The Brutalist’s Streaming Release Date Means For The Movie

Its Audience Will Continue Growing

The Brutalist premiered to rave reviews at the Venice Film Festival in September 2024, and was acquired and released by A24 in theaters the following December. Boosted by the awards-season hype, The Brutalist was quietly a solid box office success, making nearly $50 million on a budget under $10 million, shockingly small for the film’s level of grandeur and scope that made it onto the screen. The next step for the movie will be streaming on Max, where it will continue to garner an even bigger audience, as it has since its initial premiere.

Reviews have widely called the movie “monumental and a powerful symphony of the immigrant experience, elevated by Adrien Brody’s deeply moving performance, which won him his second Academy Award for Best Actor after The Pianist in 2003, in which he also played a Holocaust survivor. The Brutalist received a total of 10 Oscar nominations, which was tied with Wicked for the second most at the 2025 Academy Awards, and also won for Best Original Score and Best Cinematography.

Our Take On The Brutalist’s Streaming Release Date

What’s The Best Way To Watch It?

The Brutalist was sH๏τ on 35mm film in VistaVision, a high-resolution format with a wide field of view that hasn’t been used since the early 1960s, meaning the movie is best experienced projected in 70mm or in a modern-day large format like IMAX. However, since The Brutalist is no longer showing in theaters, some will have to settle for streaming it on Max. However, for those who really care about the best picture quality possible, A24’s Blu-ray or 4K discs would be a better alternative to streaming for watching The Brutalist at home.
