Blumhouse’s New Psychological Horror Movie Hits Major Box Office Milestone As Studio Rounds Out Top 10 With Another Thriller

The new psychological horror movie from Blumhouse has just accomplished an important box office feat. The independent production company, which was founded by Jason Blum and Amy Israel in 2000, produces movies and television shows across many genres, though they are best known for their horror offerings. Some of the most notable Blumhouse movies include M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological thriller Split, the Jordan Peele horror movie Get Out, the Joe Hill adaptation The Black Phone, and the smash-hit killer doll movie M3GAN.

Blumhouse is known for creating some of the most notable horror franchises of the modern era. This includes the Insidious movies, Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Happy Death Day, Sinister, Ouija, and more. They have also produced installments in pre-existing franchises such as Halloween and The Exorcist. However, in 2024 and 2025 so far, their slate has been dominated by original movies such as Night Swim, Imaginary, AfrAId, and their new psychological horror movie that has continued to rise up the box office charts.

The Woman In The Yard Has Hit A Domestic Milestone

The Horror Movie Debuted In Late March

The Woman in the Yard has hit a major milestone at the domestic box office. The new psychological horror movie, which re-teams Carry-On director Jaume Collet-Serra and star Danielle ᴅᴇᴀᴅwyler, follows a widowed mother recovering from an accident when a mysterious woman draped in black arrives in the yard, mysteriously announcing that “today’s the day.” The Woman in the Yard release kicked off just two weeks before the arrival of the Blumhouse techno-thriller Drop, which follows a woman on a first date being menaced by an unseen enemy via her phone’s drop function.

Drop was directed by Christopher Landon and stars Meghann Fahy and Brandon Sklenar.

Per ᴅᴇᴀᴅline, as of Saturday morning, The Woman in the Yard is projected to close out its third weekend in theaters with a 3-day total of $2.1 million. This sees it landing at No. 9 on the chart for the weekend and pushes its cumulative domestic total to $20.3 million, pᴀssing the $20 million milestone as Drop debuts at No. 5 with $7.7 million in a crowded opening weekend that sees it falling behind Warfare (No. 4), The Amateur (No. 3), The King of Kings (No. 2), and A Minecraft Movie (No. 1).

Our Take On The Woman In The Yard Box Office Milestone

It Portends Good Things For Blumhouse In 2025

The Woman reaches out to Ramona in The Woman in the Yard

Now that it has continued to rise up the domestic chart, The Woman in the Yard has become only the fourth horror movie of the year to cross the $20 million milestone, behind Wolf Man (also a Blumhouse release), Heart Eyes, and The Monkey. While the milestone will almost certainly be surpᴀssed by other horror тιтles as the year continues, the Collet-Serra movie continues a 2025 box office trend for Blumhouse that will most likely continue with most of the тιтles in their upcoming slate, which includes the sequels M3GAN 2.0 and Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.
