The official тιтle for Spider-Man: Brand New Day has us thinking the upcoming sequel will be copying a surprising movie from Phase 3 of the MCU. Recent updates from Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures have raised anticipation for Tom Holland’s upcoming MCU sequel, even though not much is yet known about Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s story, cast or impact on the MCU. Marvel recently confirmed its official тιтle, however, marking the official end of the “Home Trilogy,” and setting up an exciting new story for the MCU, perhaps more closely inspired by Marvel Comics.
Tom Holland has now portrayed Peter Parker’s Spider-Man in seven Marvel movies, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day is set to mark his eighth. However, he’s also been speculated to appear in Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for release only two months before Brand New Day, but this casting hasn’t yet been officially confirmed. If Spider-Man is absent from Doomsday, Brand New Day has the perfect opportunity to follow in the footsteps of a surprising 2018 MCU movie by delivering a grounded story close to the end of the Multiverse Saga.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Teases A Grounded Story For Tom Holland’s Next MCU Movie
Brand New Day Was A Grounded Marvel Comics Storyline For Spider-Man
Spider-Man: Brand New Day teases a street-level, more grounded story for Peter Parker in the MCU, as this sequel could take inspiration from Marvel Comics’ controversial Brand New Day event from 2008. Picking up after a deal with Mephisto erased Peter Parker and MJ’s marriage, and therefore changed history, Brand New Day saw Spider-Man take on the likes of Menace, Mister Negative, Overdrive and more on the streets of New York. This was a relatively downplayed and small-scale story that hints at a low-stakes adventure for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man in the MCU’s Phase 6.
This would be an interesting progression for Spider-Man in the MCU, especially releasing towards the end of the MCU’s Multiverse Saga. It could have been ᴀssumed that Spider-Man: Brand New Day would explore a wild, multiversal storyline, especially coming sandwiched between the clearly-multiversal Doomsday and Secret Wars. Even so, the prospect of Spider-Man: Brand New Day detailing a more grounded story means the 2026 movie could copy one surprising movie from the MCU’s Phase 3, as Ant-Man and the Wasp did the same thing in 2018.
Brand New Day Might Take A Leaf Out Of Ant-Man & The Wasp’s Book
Ant-Man & The Wasp Released Shortly After Avengers: Infinity War
Back in 2018, Paul Rudd’s Scott Lang was absent from Avengers: Infinity War, as he was still on house arrest following the events of Captain America: Civil War. While Scott Lang’s Ant-Man didn’t help during the battle against Thanos in Infinity War, he did take on his own threat in the form of Ava Starr’s Ghost during 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. The sequel acted as a palate cleanser for audiences after we saw many notable MCU heroes turn to dust at the end of Infinity War, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day could do the same after Doomsday.
This suggests that Spider-Man: Brand New Day might take place at the same time as Avengers: Doomsday, just as Ant-Man and the Wasp took place at the same time as Infinity War. If this is the case, a grounded storyline for the Spider-Man sequel would be an inspired choice by Marvel Studios, allowing Peter Parker to expand his career as a Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, perhaps before later rejoining the Avengers. It’s surprising that Brand New Day might copy the same pattern as Ant-Man and the Wasp, but this could work perfectly for the 2026 movie.
Tom Holland’s Absence From Avengers: Doomsday Will Make No Way Home’s Tragic Ending Even Better
Tom Holland Hasn’t Yet Been Confirmed To Appear In Avengers: Doomsday
Marvel Studios announced the first 27 cast actors in Avengers: Doomsday at the end of March, and Tom Holland was not included in this very exciting line-up. Previous reports have suggested that Holland will have a key role in Doomsday, splitting his filming time between Doomsday and Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. However, since Holland hasn’t yet been officially confirmed to be reprising the role of Spider-Man in Doomsday, it’s possible he’ll be missing from the Phase 6 sequel, just like Ant-Man was from Avengers: Infinity War, and this would perfectly continue Spider-Man: No Way Home’s tragic ending.

No Way Home ended with Doctor Strange casting a memory-wiping spell that made everyone in the world forget who Peter Parker is, including close allies to Spider-Man, such as Strange himself, Ned Leeds, Happy Hogan and MJ. While people still remember Spider-Man as a masked, anonymous hero, Peter Parker’s anonymity means he might not be at the top of heroes’ minds when drafting help for the battle against Doctor Doom in Avengers: Doomsday. Brand New Day could make Peter Parker a more hardened, street-level hero, perhaps one who doesn’t want to get involved in an epic multiversal battle.
Spider-Man Needs To Have A Larger Role In Avengers: Secret Wars After Brand New Day
Spider-Man: Brand New Day Could Set Up Huge Secret Wars Events
While it’s possible that Tom Holland’s Peter Parker won’t be making an appearance in Avengers: Doomsday, or will at least have a dramatically reduced role prior to Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the subsequent Spider-Man sequel may perfectly set the stage for the Russo brothers’ next Avengers movie. Spider-Man is expected to have a much larger role in 2027’s Avengers: Secret Wars, which will mark the end of the Multiverse Saga. Spider-Man: Brand New Day, if taking place simultaneously with Doomsday, can significantly alter Spider-Man’s MCU trajectory.
The Russo brothers have confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars will be loosely inspired by both of Marvel Comics’ Secret Wars events from 1984 and 2015. Spider-Man has a huge role in both of these huge storylines, and these made exciting changes that would be great to see in the MCU’s Phase 6. In 1984, Spider-Man gained his black Symbiote costume, while in 2015, Peter Parker teamed up with Miles Morales. It would be fantastic to see the stories of Venom and Miles Morales develop in Spider-Man: Brand New Day before Spider-Man’s return in Avengers: Secret Wars.
