Star Wars Celebrates Revenge Of The Sith’s 20th Anniversary With The Darth Vader Story I’ve Always Longed For

Star Wars just announced a brand-new Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader story, and I couldn’t be more excited. Anakin Skywalker’s Star Wars timeline has long been among the most important stories in Star Wars movies and TV shows. Following the original trilogy, Vader’s story became so much more fleshed out (and more tragic) in the prequels. Many have long wanted more information about the years in between the prequels and the original trilogy, though, and while shows like Obi-Wan Kenobi have provided a bit more insight, this new Star Wars story will tell us so much more about Darth Vader.

The announcement, posted to the official Star Wars site, reveals that brilliant Star Wars author Adam Christopher is bringing a brand-new Darth Vader story to life in the canon book Star Wars: Master of Evil. Per Star Wars, the book “chronicles Vader’s haunting pursuit for the power to conquer death.” While it remains to be seen what precisely that may mean, Master of Evil promises to be a thrilling new addition to Vader’s Star Wars story, depicting the time between Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope.

What The New Darth Vader Novel Means For Star Wars

Darth Vader Wanting To Conquer Death Has Myriad Implications

The exact details of this story will no doubt remain under wraps until the book releases on November 11, 2025, but even the minimal information provided at this point in time has fascinating implications. For one, the idea that Vader is trying to conquer death has me wondering whose death Vader is trying to alter. While the obvious ᴀssumption may be that he wants to prevent his own death, as Sith constantly wanted to do, I am interpreting it in another way.

Darth Vader was in constant suffering from essentially the moment he nearly burned to death on Mustafar until he died in Return of the Jedi. That doesn’t strike me as someone who wants to prevent his own death, even if he was one of Star Wars’ most powerful Sith. What I find much more believable is the possibility that Master of Evil will explore Vader’s desperate attempts to resurrect Padmé. Star Wars comics have already provided insight into these efforts, but a novel bringing this quest to life in a more elaborate narrative would be absolutely thrilling.

Star Wars Fans Are Getting The Vader Story We’ve Always Wanted

No Matter The Story, This Era Will Be Fascinating To Explore

As mentioned, the Obi-Wan Kenobi show already offered more insight into Darth Vader’s whereabouts and efforts during the Dark Times, but that show was obviously focused much more heavily on Obi-Wan. This book will be centered on Vader’s arc during this point in the Star Wars timeline instead, and, given the novel format, it can go in-depth in ways even a show or movie couldn’t. Yes, we know how this story begins and how it ends, but we haven’t gotten Vader’s internal thoughts in the level of detail this book will undoubtedly provide.

I’m also personally quite hopeful this does entail a connection to Padmé. I’ve wanted to see more about Vader’s desperation to resurrect her for quite some time because that’s such an obvious next step in Vader’s story. Even if this is a story exploring Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader’s desire to avoid death, though, I’m beyond excited for this new Star Wars story.
