Robert Pattinson’s New $127 Million Sci-Fi Movie Breaks A Box Office Record After 14 Years

Mickey 17 has broken a significant box office record for Robert Pattinson after nearly two decades. The 2025 sci-fi film was highly anticipated despite several delays thanks to the promise of seeing Pattinson work with Oscar-winning director Bong Joon-ho. After Parasite‘s box office and awards success and Pattinson’s rejuvenation as a box office star, there was a lot of hope that Mickey 17 would be a major box office hit. That’s certainly what Warner Bros. was hoping for when they gave Mickey 17 a $118 million budget.

Since its release on March 7, 2025, Mickey 17 hasn’t managed to deliver the type of box office receipts necessary to turn it into a profitable venture. It made a disappointing $19 million in its opening weekend and has managed to gross $127 million worldwide after a month in theaters. It’s now out on digital, which could slow down its box office further. While Warner Bros. may ultimately lose out on the film financially, at least at the box office, Robert Pattinson does have something to celebrate regarding Mickey 17‘s box office and a new record run for him.

Mickey 17 Is Robert Pattinson’s Fourth Consecutive Movie To Make Over $100 Million

The Longest Stretch Of His Career

Mickey 17 has made enough at the box office to give Robert Pattinson a new record streak of movies that made over $100 million. This run began in 2020 with his pivotal role in Christopher Nolan’s sci-fi movie Tenet. The movie made $365 million worldwide after being delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. While Pattinson’s next movie went to Netflix, his return to theaters came with The Batman in 2022. His DC solo film made $772 million worldwide, resulting in plans for a sequel to move forward – although it has yet to transpire.

Pattinson’s $100 million movie streak continued to tie his previous record at three films with the release of The Boy and the Heron. Hayao Miyazaki’s Oscar-winning animated movie included Pattinson in the English-dub voice cast. The movie, which made $282 million worldwide, technically counts towards his box office history as a result. That led into Mickey 17‘s release. The movie has made $127 million so far. That’s more than enough to extend Robert Pattinson’s streak of $100 million movies to four, breaking a record that stood for over a decade.

Twilight Propelled Him To Stardom

Prior to going on this new four movie $100 million streak, Robert Pattinson managed to do three consecutive $100M+ performers once before. This came during the best financial stretch of Pattinson’s career from 2010 to 2011. It began with The Twilight Saga: Eclipse. The third installment of the romantic fantasy franchise made $698 million worldwide. That was good enough to become Pattinson’s third-highest-grossing movie his career at the time.

The Edward Cullen actor followed up Eclipse with a double-dose of movies that made over $100 million in 2011, creating the trend. He starred alongside Reese Witherspoon in Water for Elephants early in the year. The period romance film capitalized on Pattinson’s heartthrob status to make $117 million at the box office. It helped tide over some viewers until he returned as Edward in The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1. The fourth entry in the franchise made $712 million worldwide. Pattinson had three straight $100M+ hits as a result. His moves made over $1.5 billion during this stretch.

Robert Pattinson’s New $100 Million Box Office Streak Highlights His Unique Career

He Only Had One Such Hit In The Previous 8 Years

Robert Pattinson’s new $100 million streak is another sign of his renewed status as a box office star, and it all came on his terms. After the Twilight franchise ended, Pattinson worked very hard to break free of the mold Hollywood tried to put him in. He stayed clear of any big-budget films or franchises for nearly a decade. Instead, he worked with directors like James Gray, the Safdie brothers, Claire Denis, and Robert Eggers to help remind everyone of his great dramatic acting chops.

That dedication to pursuing his craft and projects that were more meaningful to him creatively than built for mᴀss consumption can be seen at the box office. He didn’t have a single movie that made over $20 million in the eight years after leaving Twilight. This was all by design, though. He didn’t have any mᴀssive box office failures during this time either. The Lost City of Z comes closest, as it made $19 million on a $30 million budget, but it was still critically acclaimed. Pattinson’s performance was praised once again, too.

Once he decided to re-integrate himself with blockbusters, Pattinson still chose to work with some of the best directors in Hollywood, just on bigger scales. His new $100 million streak is thanks to Christopher Nolan, Matt Reeves, Hayao Miyazaki, and Bong Joon-ho. It’s no surprise, then, that he’s got this new streak. He’s only started to tackle projects with bigger box office potential at a time when he’s broken out of the Twilight era of his career. Pattinson has become a reliable box office draw in recent years as a result.

When Will Robert Pattinson’s $100 Million Movie Streak End?

There’s A Chance It Continues For A While

The future of Robert Pattinson’s $100 million movie streak largely hinges on how the rest of 2025 goes for him. He has two more movies that are expected to come out later this year: Die, My Love and The Drama. The former pairs him with Jennifer Lawrence for a dark comedy, while the other is an A24 romantic dramedy co-starring Zendaya. Both movies are potentially more viable as awards contenders than box office hits. But, each also sees Pattinson work with a bankable and popular actress, increasing the chances that either or both hit the $100 million benchmark if everything goes right.

Should Pattinson make it through Die, My Love and The Drama with his current $100 million movie streak intact, the record run will easily continue a bit longer. He’s set to appear in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey in 2026, and there are even reports he’ll be in Dune 3, which is also expected to be released in 2026. Both of those projects will easily surpᴀss the $100 million milestone. Then there’s The Batman Part II, which will also have no trouble clearing that total when it comes out in 2027.

This could mean that even if Pattinson’s $100 million streak ends with Mickey 17 as the fourth film, he is in a great position to potentially start another run. The Odyssey, Dune 3, and The Batman 2 would give him one of the best stretches at the box office of his entire career. And if he manages to get another film out in between or after, I won’t be surprised if he ties the current four-film record in a few years.
