I Think We’re Finally About To Get These 3 Untold Star Wars Stories

Lucasfilm’s new Star Wars: Tales of the Underworld

TV show is the best chance for us to get three exciting untold Star Wars TV shows. Have you ever noticed how Star Wars has the strange habit of telling its stories out of sequence? It’s a pattern set by George Lucas when he reтιтled the first Star Wars movie, confirming it was “Episode IV” – not “Episode I.”

The Tales anthologies are a perfect example. We’ve had two seasons so far; the first focused on the Jedi, and the second on the Empire. Lucasfilm recently revealed that we’re getting a third season on May 4, “Tales of the Underworld,” which looks to be largely set during the Dark Times of the Empire’s reign. This will star two characters: the former Sith ᴀssᴀssin Asajj Ventress and Boba Fett’s chief rival as a bounty hunter, Cad Bane. And I think I know three stories we’re about to see…

Will We Finally See Cade Bane Versus Boba Fett?

A Cut Story From The Clone Wars

Let’s start with one of the most exciting possibilities: that we’ll finally see the fateful duel between Cad Bane and Boba Fett. This story was originally supposed to be shown in Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7; it was abandoned when Disney canceled The Clone Wars, and it was never made when a shorter seventh season was commissioned again years later. Even more annoyingly, the confrontation was actually mentioned in The Book of Boba Fett, signposting the gap.

Here’s the exciting thing; Tales of the Underworld‘s writer is Matt Michnovetz, an experienced Star Wars scribe who’s best known for writing Jedi: Fallen Order, some of the best episodes of Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and – of course – Clone Wars. In fact, Michnovetz was the one who wrote the original Cad Bane versus Boba Fett story. Tales of the Underworld is surely the perfect place to show the infamous shoot-out.

The Bad Batch Set Up A Story Of Asajj Ventress’ Resurrection

How Did Ventress Return From The ᴅᴇᴀᴅ?

That’s an exciting possibility, but the Ventress arcs are just as thrilling. Like Cad Bane, Ventress’ Clone Wars story was disrupted by the cancelation – but in her case, the story has been explored in other mediums. Christie Golden’s Dark Disciple lifts from a dark story in which Ventress betrayed Count Dooku, working with her lover Jedi Master Quinlan Vos to try to kill him. Things didn’t end well for Ventress, who died.

Ventress mysteriously appeared in The Bad Batch season 3, prompting some initial complaints that the story broke canon. In reality, Ventress’ resurrection was clearly signposted in Dark Disciple, when her body was placed in mystical “Waters of Life.” Still, Underworld is the best chance to show Ventress’ resurrection, revealing the truth for all to see.

I’m Desperate To See How Quinlan Vos Survived Order 66

He Was Name-Dropped In Obi-Wan Kenobi

Speaking of Jedi Master Quinlan Vos, he remains one of the most intriguing characters in Star Wars lore. A Jedi spy and ᴀssᴀssin (yes, really), Quinlan became Ventress’ lover, and almost fell to the dark side. We know he too survived into the Dark Times, because Obi-Wan learned he was still alive in Obi-Wan Kenobi. But what was he doing, and did he ever reconnect with Ventress?

The Tales of the Underworld trailer shows Ventress defending what seems to be a Jedi Padawan. The most likely explanation is that she’s working with the Hidden Path, which tried to get Jedi to safety and save them from Imperial Inquisitors. We know Quinlan was saved by the Hidden Path, which surely means we’re about to see this particular story thread picked up too. This Star Wars TV show really does look absolutely thrilling.
