Channing Tatum’s Upcoming Crime Drama Sounds A Lot Like His 2017 Heist Movie With 92% On Rotten Tomatoes

Roofman is an upcoming crime drama starring Channing Tatum as Jeffrey Manchester, a real-life criminal who gained notoriety in the late 1990s for drilling into buildings from the roof and stealing valuables within. The film, which is being directed by Blue Valentine’s Derek Cianfrance, will also star LaKeith Stanfield and Kirsten Dunst in supporting roles. Channing Tatum has had several major releases recently, and Roofman could help to continue this trend.

A short clip from Roofman was shown at the 2025 CinemaCon in Las Vegas, alongside many other releases from Hollywood’s biggest studios. The footage cemented Cianfrance’s upcoming drama as one of Paramount’s most exciting upcoming projects, displaying a unique blend of comedy and crime that reminded audiences of another Channing Tatum project from several years ago. Hopefully Roofman can follow Tatum’s recent streaming successes and be another hit.

Channing Tatum’s Roofman Sounds Like A Similar Concept To 2017’s Logan Lucky

There Are Some Striking Similarities In The Plot

While Roofman is certainly an original concept, there are clearly some similarities with another of Channing Tatum’s most popular movies: Logan Lucky. Steven Soderbergh’s 2017 movie follows a criminal named Jimmy Logan who uses his knowledge of construction work to plan an elaborate heist with pneumatic tubes. Alongside both sitting comfortably in the crime genre, Logan Lucky and Roofman have a very unusual connection in the world of construction and roofing. This isn’t a particularly common theme for crime movies, which makes the similarity even more bizarre.

However, one clear difference between Logan Lucky and Roofman is that the former isn’t based on a true story. Soderbergh’s movie is a completely original narrative that may have drawn inspiration from criminals such as Jeffrey Manchester, but certainly isn’t an adaptation of any particular case. From the little footage that’s been shown of Roofman, it also seems like Cianfrance’s movie will have a very different tone than Logan Lucky, focusing much more strongly on the comedic side of this story.

Roofman’s Similarities To Logan Lucky Are An Encouraging Sign For Channing Tatum’s New Movie

There Are Far Worse Movies It Could Be Reminiscent Of

These obvious similarities are a great sign for Roofman, connecting it to one of Tatum’s most beloved projects and creating exciting buzz before the film’s trailer is even out. Logan Lucky is widely considered to be among Channing Tatum’s best movies, so by sparking this discussion, Roofman has already made a name for itself. Those who have been longing for another magnificent performance from him should look forward to the upcoming endeavor. Admittedly, it has yet to be seen exactly how Cianfrance will handle this exciting true story, but there’s plenty of great potential.
