Snow White Box Office Pᴀsses Major Global Milestone (But It Still Hasn’t Made Its Budget Back)

Snow White has crossed a major box office milestone, but it might not be enough. The newest Disney live-action remake stars Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot and features new music by The Greatest Showman‘s Pasek and Paul. Although the movie debuted at No. 1 at the domestic box office, its box office performance has been hampered by a variety of factors, including negative reviews earning it a 40% Rotten Tomatoes score and Snow White backlash coming from multiple corners, including controversy surrounding its depiction of the seven dwarfs and the leads’ opposing opinions on Israel and Palestine.

Per Variety, as of Sunday morning, Snow White is projected to close out its third weekend in theaters with a global total of $168 million. This sees it pᴀssing the $150 milestone and maintaining its status as one of the Top 5 movies of 2025 so far, only falling behind A Minecraft Movie at No. 3, Captain America: Brave New World at No. 2, and the Chinese smash hit Ne Zha 2 at No. 1. However, the fact that it cost $250 million to make still means that it has not even earned its budget back just yet.

What This Means For Snow White

It Will Probably Lose Money In Theaters

Although the movie is surrounded by controversy, the biggest impediment to its success is that mᴀssive Snow White budget. Because theaters keep half of ticket sales and publicity costs are not factored into production budgets, movies generally need to earn back two and a half times their budgets in theaters, having production costs of $250 million most likely places the new movie’s break-even point somewhere around $625 million or more.

It is most likely a question of how much money it will lose as opposed to if it will lose money…

Considering the fact that its current projections cast severe doubt on whether it can even pᴀss the $100 million domestic milestone by the end of its run, it seems highly unlikely to even make its budget back at the box office, let alone turn a profit. This number will also be boosted by its eventual VOD release. Similarly, when it premieres on streaming on Disney+, it could generate subscriber revenue that helps offset its costs. However, ultimately, it is most likely a question of how much money it will lose as opposed to if it will lose money.

Our Take On The Snow White Box Office Milestone

Audiences’ Reactions Could Help It Progress

One factor that could help boost the prospects of the 2025 Disney movie is the fact that audiences are not delivering the same dismal Snow White reviews as critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a 73% Popcornmeter score at the time of writing, which is a full 33% higher than its official Tomatometer score. While this does not indicate an overwhelmingly glowing response, it is generally positive and could mean that the movie will slowly build word of mouth over the course of the tail end of its run.
