Development for The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, the brand-new Avatar: The Last Airbender movie, is fully underway. Not much is known beyond some of the cast members and the basic plot of following an adult Team Avatar, but with a release date of January 30, 2026, it hopefully won’t be long before more information comes out.

2026’s The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender will be the first major production of Avatar Studios, a production company founded by Last Airbender creators Bryan Konietzko and Michael Dante DiMartino specifically to create more Airbender content, and while it won’t come out until 2026, there’s reason to suspect that more Avatar: The Last Airbender content beyond the upcoming movie is already in development. The franchise has been making an amazing comeback in recent years, and with more movies on the way, that will be solidified for years to come.

Avatar Studios Might Have Accidentally Revealed More Avatar Movies Are Coming

There’s Plenty More In Store For Avatar Studios

Even though there hasn’t been any content from Avatar Studios since it was first founded, that doesn’t mean there isn’t anything to be excited about. Not only is there the aforementioned movie, The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, to look forward to, but in celebration of the cartoon’s 20th anniversary, a new Avatar cartoon, Avatar: Seven Havens, was officially announced to be in development, as well. There’s plenty to look forward to in both animation and live-action, and overall, that’s nothing but exciting.

People are already plenty familiar with what little has been officially announced from Avatar Studios, but there might be even more than that in store. Following the Paramount panel at Cinema Con 2025, a job listing went up on Paramount’s official LinkedIn page for an executive to oversee not just The Legend of Aang and Seven Havens, but “other films set in the universe currently in development”. That means that Avatar Studios is already developing movies beyond The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, and hopefully, there will be official announcements for them soon.

Avatar Fans Might Already Know Avatar Studios’ Next Big Movies

Airbender’s Next Movies Have Been Known For Years

There are officially more Airbender movies in development beyond The Legend of Aang, and fans might already know what they are. In the first few years following Avatar Studios’ establishment, leaks started coming out about various projects that were in development for both theaters and television, and among those leaks were leaks about The Legend of Aang and Seven Havens. Both of those ended up being true, and because of that, fans of Avatar: The Last Airbender might already know what the next movies are thanks to various leaks.

As for what those leaked projects are, they’re all worth looking forward to. According to the leaks, Avatar Studios should currently be working on films starring an adult Zuko, Korra from some point following The Legend of Korra, and Kyoshi from an unspecified point of time in her life, either during or after the events of the Avatar Kyoshi books. Details are naturally sparse to nonexistent, but overall, the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender movies will all follow characters and periods people have been waiting decades to see more of, and that will be great to see.

What Could Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Next Movies Be About?

Predicting The Plots Of Airbender’s Next Movies

While nothing concrete has been revealed about the next Airbender movies, it’s not impossible to predict their stories. For the Kyoshi movie, while it would be easy enough to simply adapt the Avatar Kyoshi books, there’s a major gap of time after the books that has yet to be explored, which would include things like what happened to Kyoshi’s lover, Rangshi, or why Kyoshi wasn’t more proactive about dealing with Chin the Conqueror. There are numerous stories a Kyoshi movie could tell both within and beyond the Avatar Kyoshi books, and there’s no telling how far things could go.

For the Zuko movie, since Zuko will be an adult, it will likely be a follow-up to The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, either as a direct sequel or simply the next story in the lives of Aang and his friends. An easy route to go with a Zuko movie would be to adapt The Search, the Avatar: The Last Airbender comic that revealed the truth of what happened to Zuko’s mom, but that happened earlier than when the movie would be set, so unless it’s being retconned, there’s no clear idea of what the story would be about.

The most exciting movie of the leaks, of course, is the potential Korra movie. Getting more content for Korra is great in and of itself, but Seven Havens will be tied heavily to Korra’s character, as she did something that almost destroyed the world and made everyone come to hate the Avatar, so a Legend of Korra movie can work as a prequel to Avatar: Seven Havens to explain why everyone hates Korra in the new show. All of that is hypothetical, of course, but nevertheless, it would be a great route for the movie to go down.

Why Avatar: The Last Airbender Getting So Many New Movies Is So Great

Airbender Has Never Been Bigger Than It Is Now

As older fans will know, following the success of the original cartoon, the Airbender franchise went through a very rough patch in the 2010s thanks to how poorly The Legend of Korra was treated by Nickelodeon and the universally-maligned movie by M. Night Shyamalan damaging the brand, and it seemed like it was destined to fade into obscurity. Now, though, the success of Netflix’s Avatar: The Last Airbender and the founding of Avatar Studios have made the Airbender franchise more alive than ever, and that’s something old and new fans alike can appreciate in every regard.

Any sort of continuation would be great to see, but with movies being part of it, that means that Avatar: The Last Airbender’s brand is seen as big enough to be worth the time and resources necessary to put out multiple movies on the level of the cartoon, which is great to see after seeing it be largely irrelevant for the better part of a decade. There still isn’t anything known about the movies, not even The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender, but with all of them on the horizon, the franchise has never been more exciting.
