A Minecraft Movie Sequel Gets Exciting Response From Director: “Many Amazing Mods And Characters And Biomes We Haven’t Explored Yet”

A potential sequel to A Minecraft Movie has received an exciting response from director Jared Hess. The movie, based on the best-selling video game Minecraft, has recently hit theaters and is entering its opening weekend at the box office. A Minecraft Movie broke a video game movie preview record with $10 million from its Thursday night preview, setting it up for a strong run at the global box office and fueling speculation that a sequel movie could follow in the coming years.

In an interview with GamesRadar+, Hess revealed that he would be interested in making a sequel to A Minecraft Movie. He talked about the infinite scope of the game’s world and how this leaves so much to be explored by characters, biomes, and mods. He also stated that it would be amazing to revisit the world again. Check out Hess’s comments below:

“Oh, it’d be so much fun. Yeah. I mean, look, there’s the world’s infinite, so many amazing mods and characters and biomes we haven’t explored yet, so it’d be amazing.”

What This Means For A Minecraft Movie

The Family-Friendly Kid-Centric Film Could Earn A Second Installment

A Minecraft Movie is a film that is unlikely to win any awards or critical praise, but it should appeal to kids who are fans of the game and may well prove to be a fun-filled box office success.

A sequel will likely be contingent on the movie’s success, but it sounds like Hess certainly has an idea of where he would like to take a second installment and the characters he would like to explore. With the $150 million budget likely to be recouped at this point, the potential sequel will likely expand on what has been introduced in the world so far. For instance, A Minecraft Movie post-credits scene introduces another default player who meets with Steve, hinting at the direction of the film franchise and its hopes to explore more of the lore.

Our Take On A Minecraft Movie’s Sequel Chances

The Box Office & The Cast Agreeing To Return Will Be Key To A Follow-Up

The cast of A Minecraft Movie has a balance of comedy heavyweights, such as Jack Black, and strong child actors, and convincing them to sign on for a sequel will be key to getting the greenlight. The movie will also need to boast a strong box office to show that the audience for an adaptation is there. Ultimately, A Minecraft Movie is a film that is unlikely to win any awards or critical praise, but it should appeal to kids who are fans of the game and may well prove to be a fun-filled box-office success. So far, that is looking likely, given how well the movie is doing overwhelmingly at the box office.
