Zack Snyder’s New Movie Is Unlike Anything He’s Ever Done & It’s More Exciting Than Another DC Movie

Zack Snyder‘s upcoming movie looks like a welcome change in direction for the filmmaker, and it will be even more exciting than another DC movie. Having overseen the previous DC cinematic universe before James Gunn took over, Zack Snyder managed to accumulate a huge following, and while many of his projects have proven to be divisive, there is no doubt he has become a huge name in Hollywood. Snyder has been part of several unfinished franchises, as he never managed to complete his Justice League vision, while his Army of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ animated show didn’t even get off the ground.

Although these stories never seeing their intended conclusion was a major blow for Snyder fans, it left him free to create his latest universe, Rebel Moon. Unfortunately, while Snyder himself confirmed Rebel Moon 3 is in the works, Netflix hasn’t yet given the green light, leaving its fate unknown. Naturally, this will feel like more bad news for fans of the filmmaker, but his next project provides plenty of reason to be excited. Rather than continuing his ambitious, multi-movie plans, Snyder appears to be going for a career first by producing a film that is unlike anything he’s done before.

Brawler Sounds Like Zack Snyder’s Most Grounded Movie Ever

The Filmmaker’s Track Record Makes Brawler A Genuine Surprise

Zack Snyder imposed on a screensH๏τ from Rebel Moon

After years of focusing on big franchise films, Zack Snyder’s UFC movie looks like it could be his most grounded story yet. While Snyder has previously worked on projects centering around superheroes, zombies, or sci-fi elements, Brawler sounds like it will be much more realistic. Brawler will focus on a young fighter attempting to overcome his demons while pursuing UFC gold, and the film’s premise is completely different from anything Snyder has done in the past. Working on a grittier project should excitingly push the director out of his comfort zone, and Brawler could even have sequel potential.

Many of Snyder’s past movies have featured excellent close-quarters combat, suggesting he should be able to get the grizzly tone of MMA right.

Given the movie will follow MMA, there will be plenty of action which Snyder is used to, but the story will likely be more character-driven, whereas his previous work has all been about big universes and expansive lore. This isn’t to say his other characters haven’t been impressive, but Brawler‘s protagonist will face more relatable, real-world problems. Additionally, many of Snyder’s past movies have featured excellent close-quarters combat, suggesting he should be able to get the grizzly tone of MMA right while delivering a thrilling plot that makes Brawler the most grounded movie of his career.

Zack Snyder’s UFC Movie Could Be Exactly What He Needs

A Change In Direction Is The Perfect Move For Snyder After His Recent Struggles

Although Snyder’s latest projects have certainly gathered a loyal audience, Brawler might be the fresh direction he desperately needs. With James Gunn taking the franchise in a completely new direction and Ben Affleck reportedly done with superhero movies, Zack Snyder’s Justice League universe returning looks impossible. Likewise, Army of the ᴅᴇᴀᴅ doesn’t seem to have a future despite its fun concept, while Rebel Moon‘s poor reviews leave its future hanging in the balance, suggesting a change is needed. Therefore, a UFC movie sounds like the perfect way for Snyder to overcome his recent struggles and win over general audiences.

His recent universes may not have found the success he would have hoped for, but Snyder is undoubtedly talented at creating interesting action and eliciting emotion, which sounds perfect for Brawler. Focusing less on these bigger concept franchises and more on a concrete, self-contained story using his best qualities could give Zack Snyder his best movie in years. It has been a while since one of his films gained an overwhelmingly positive reception, but if done right, Brawler could be the smash hit he’s been waiting for, which might launch a plethora of more grounded films in the future.
