I’m Glad That Marvel Is Finally Breaking A Spider-Man Movie Trend With The Newest Film’s тιтle

Marvel has confirmed the official тιтle for Tom Holland’s next MCU solo movie, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and it breaks a huge trend for the wall-crawler that none of his previous MCU movies have explored. Tom Holland was confirmed to be returning as Peter Parker shortly before the release of 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home, but excitement has been rising for his upcoming sequel in recent months. Destin Daniel Cretton was hired as the movie’s director in October, a release date of July 31, 2026, was set in February, and Sadie Sink joined the movie’s cast in March.

At the end of March, Marvel confirmed the official тιтle for Spider-Man 4 to be Spider-Man: Brand New Day. This proves that Marvel Studios’ “Home Trilogy” is officially over, and Peter Parker will be embarking on new adventures, perhaps with a new supporting cast after No Way Home ended with everybody forgetting him. The confirmation of Spider-Man: Brand New Day as the movie’s тιтle may provide a tease of what story could unfold in the 2026 sequel, as it breaks a huge trend that other MCU Spider-Man movies have avoided.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day Is The First Spider-Man Movie Named After Marvel Comics

No Other MCU Spider-Man Movie Is Named After A Marvel Comics Storyline

What makes Spider-Man: Brand New Day such an important тιтle for Tom Holland’s next solo movie as Peter Parker is that it’s the first Spider-Man movie in the MCU named after a storyline from Marvel Comics. Brand New Day was explored in Marvel Comics between January and July 2008, and caught up with Peter Parker in the aftermath of the One More Day story, which loosely inspired the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. One More Day saw Peter Parker and MJ’s marriage erased and everyone in the world forgetting him, which altered key events in Spider-Man’s own history.

Previously, Marvel Studios has avoided using Marvel Comics events for the тιтles of its Spider-Man movies, with 2017’s Homecoming, 2019’s Far From Home and 2021’s No Way Home all being original тιтles. While these movies were inspired by Spider-Man’s Marvel Comics roots, they were all fueled by Spider-Man’s place in the MCU’s greater timeline, which means they were seldom comic-accurate. Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s тιтle suggests the 2026 sequel will be much more comic-accurate, which could be great news for Peter Parker’s MCU future.

Why Spider-Man: Brand New Day Would Benefit From Being More Comic-Accurate

Brand New Day Was A Game-Changing Storyline For Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man

While Marvel Comics’ Brand New Day and the stories preceding it were controversial, especially the erasure of Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson’s marriage, this event was monumental for Parker’s development. This story changed huge aspects of Spider-Man’s own history, including bringing Harry Osborn and Aunt May back to life, and dealing with the aftermath of everyone on Earth forgetting his civilian idenтιтy as Peter Parker. Brand New Day also introduced a new supporting cast for Peter Parker, which would hugely benefit the MCU right about now.

Doctor Strange’s memory-wipe spell in Spider-Man: No Way Home might have saved the entire multiverse, but it also made everyone forget Peter Parker. This includes the likes of Zendaya’s MJ and Jacob Batalon’s Ned Leeds, while No Way Home also marked the tragic demise of Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May. This difficult storyline perfectly set the stage for a somewhat comic-accurate, though still MCU-set, Spider-Man: Brand New Day to unfold in Phase 6.
