Lucius Malfoy Star Reveals Which Hogwarts House He Belongs To In Real Life, & The Response Will Have Harry Potter Fans Giddy

Harry Potter

star Jason Isaacs, who played Lucius Malfoy, reveals which of the four Hogwarts houses he belongs to in real life. Based on the books by J. K. Rowling, the hit Warner Bros. fantasy franchise debuted in 2001 with Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. This first chapter in Harry’s story introduces Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and the Sorting Ceremony, where students are sorted into the school’s four main Houses: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff. While Harry is eventually sorted into Gryffindor, the Malfoy family is Slytherin through and through.

During a Puppy Interview segment for BuzzFeed Celeb, Isaacs, who made his debut as the Malfoy family patriarch in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002, reveals that, much like his character, he is a Slytherin in real life. The actor makes clear that he thinks Slytherin is where the fun is while poking fun at the more reserved students of Gryffindor. Check out his comment below:

“I’m a Slytherin. Of course, I’m a Slytherin. All the cool kids are in Slytherin. The lights go off in Gryffindor, that’s when the party starts in Slytherin, and they’re geniuses. I’m sinister. I’m left-handed.”

One of the reasons why the eight movies in the franchise were so successful, in addition to strong world-building, writing, and directing, is the Harry Potter cast. The core three of Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint obviously anchor the story, but there are plenty of supporting characters that really bring the Wizarding World to life. Lucius, though a minor antagonist throughout the story, is one such character, and his latest Slytherin reveal speaks to why he was chosen to play this memorable character.

In the Harry Potter movies, Slytherin is the Hogwarts House most ᴀssociated with evil and villainy. Voldemort, of course, was a Slytherin during the time when he was known as Tom Riddle. It’s worth mentioning, however, that, as Isaacs suggests, there’s more to this Hogwarts House than evil. Slytherins, for example, are often cunning and ambitious, and they can make for strong leaders. Plus, characters like Severus Snape, Horace Slughorn, Regulus Black, and Phineas Black were all honorable figures in their own ways, and some helped to defeat Voldemort.

Our Take On Isaacs Being A Slytherin

Isaacs Was Perfect As Lucius In Harry Potter

The Hogwarts Houses are one of the many things that make the world of Harry Potter unique and magical. Though their importance decreases as the movies become darker and more mature, and as the stakes get higher, they are a exciting introduction to Hogwarts in the first movie, especially for younger viewers. They also add an interesting element of self-reflection for audiences, who will surely ponder which House they would be sorted into. This is part of the franchise’s enduring audience appeal.

Isaacs being a Slytherin in real life doesn’t really change Lucius all that much in the movies, but it is a fun fact to keep in mind during rewatches, and it helps to explain why he was cast in the first place. Though Lucius isn’t a central character in any of the Harry Potter movies, he is a slippery secondary antagonist and a key figure in fleshing out the world of the story and Malfoy’s role in it.
