Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey Declared “Once-In-A-Generation Cinematic Masterpiece” That “Homer Himself Would Quite Likely Be Proud Of” By Exec

Universal’s distribution chief Jim Orr praised Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey at CinemaCon. The upcoming movie The Odyssey is an adaptation of Homer’s renowned Greek poem of the same name, which details Odysseus’ ten-year journey home after the Trojan War. It will be the acclaimed director’s follow-up film to the Best Picture-winning Oppenheimer and his second collaboration with Universal. The all-star cast of The Odyssey includes Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Anne Hathaway, and Lupita Nyong’o, among many others.

While no footage from The Odyssey was shown at CinemaCon, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Orr had nothing but amazing things to say about Nolan’s upcoming film. He claimed that the movie is a “masterpiece” that Homer would be proud of, which earned some chuckles. Read his full comment about The Odyssey below:

A visionary, once-in-a-generation cinematic masterpiece that Homer himself would quite likely be proud of.

What These Comments Mean For The Odyssey

The Odyssey Will Be Another Epic Movie From Christopher Nolan

It’s not surprising that Orr has nothing but incredible things to say about this film. After the success of Oppenheimer, The Odyssey is one of the most anticipated movies of the coming years. Therefore, even though Orr claiming Homer himself would be proud of the film is bold, Nolan has given audiences every reason to trust him. In addition to Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan’s best movies include Dunkirk, Interstellar, Inception, and The Dark Knight trilogy. He is widely regarded as one of the best filmmakers of this century, which is why The Odyssey will likely be a special cinematic experience.

In The Odyssey, Damon’s Odysseus will have a grueling journey home after enraging the god Poseidon. On this journey, Odysseus will face the Cyclops and the witch-goddess Circe, as well as other monstrous and fantastical creatures. Meanwhile, Nolan’s movie will also likely focus on Odysseus’ wife and son, Penelope and Telemachus, as they struggle while he is missing at sea. Not many details are currently known about The Odyssey, but it will definitely be a thrilling action/adventure film, in addition to telling an emotional familial story.

Our Take On Jim Orr’s Comments About The Odyssey

Nolan Is The Perfect Filmmaker For The Odyssey

Christopher Nolan giving John David Washington some direction in Tenet

If I had to choose any director in the world to adapt The Odyssey, it would have been Nolan. Therefore, I was thrilled when it was announced to be his next project. His previous movies, most notably Interstellar and Dunkirk, prove that Nolan is the perfect filmmaker to adapt Homer’s epic poem. Because of this, I am not at all surprised that Orr has such high praise for the movie. Nolan has directed several critically acclaimed movies, but I have a feeling that The Odyssey will be one of the best films of his career.
