Aang: The Last Airbender Full тιтle Revealed At CinemaCon

Paramount has shared a new update on Aang: The Last Airbender at CinemaCon, as development is underway. The upcoming project will be the first animated feature in the franchise, which kicked off in 2005 with the iconic Nickelodeon animated series Avatar: The Last Airbender. The upcoming Last Airbender movie will be a direct sequel to the original series, following the avatar Aang into his adulthood alongside Toph (Dionne Quan), Katara (Jessica Matten), and Sokka (Román Zaragoza) as they face off against a new villain voiced by Dave Bautista.

At CinemaCon 2025 in Las Vegas, where ScreenRant was in attendance, it was revealed revealed that the 2026 movie’s new тιтle is The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender during Paramount Pictures’ presentation of their upcoming slate. As of the time of writing, no further details about the movie were revealed during the event.

What This Means For The Legend Of Aang: The Last Airbender

The тιтle Could Contain A Major Clue

While the тιтle change would seem to be relatively minor, there is an important, though subtle, aspect to the upcoming movie being тιтled The Legend of Aang. That тιтling structure has only been used once before in the franchise, in the 2012 sequel series The Legend of Korra, which followed the newest reincarnation of the Avatar, a young woman voiced by Janet Varney. This could be an intentional choice to link the new movie to The Legend of Korra, as it bridges the timeline between the original series and the sequel.

The Legend of Korra ran for four seasons, concluding in 2014.

It seems unlikely that The Legend of Aang will directly feature characters from Korra, as – even though the show features several returning characters as adults – it takes place following the death and reincarnation of Aang. However, this тιтle could be an intentional move to link the movie to that particular branch of the franchise, as the upcoming Avatar: The Last Airbender project is one of quite a few in-development projects including season 2 of Netflix’s live-action Avatar reboot and the apocalyptic animated series Avatar: Seven Havens, which itself follows the Avatar after Korra.

Our Take On The New тιтle For The Legend Of Aang

The Character Is Front And Center

Another important aspect of the new тιтle for the movie previously known as Aang: The Last Airbender is the fact that it retains the lead character’s name. This emphasizes the fact that the тιтle character is still front and center in the new movie, which marks the first time that he has been the lead character of an animated project in the franchise since the original series ended in 2008. The movie’s direct connection to the original continuity makes this a particularly appealing prospect after so many years.
