Roofman CinemaCon Footage: Channing Tatum Is An Unconventional Thief In Action-Packed True Crime Story

Roofman footage screened at CinemaCon reveals Channing Tatum as an unconventional thief in an action-packed true-crime story. Co-written and directed by Derek Cianfrance, the upcoming film follows the former army officer, Jeffrey Manchester, known colloquially as “Roofman” for his history of breaking into McDonald’s locations through the roof and stealing from them. Other than Tatum in the lead role, its star-studded cast also includes Kirsten Dunst, Ben Mendelsohn, Peter Dinklage, Uzo Aduba, Juno Temple, LaKeith Stanfield, Melonie Diaz, and Tony Revolori.

At CinemaCon 2025, where ScreenRant was in attendance, Channing Tatum appeared on stage to introduce the footage, saying, “Roofman is really special to me…[this movie] is an immensely entertaining ride and unbelievably hilarious.” The footage features Tatum as Jeffrey Manchester breaking into a McDonald’s, as he so often did, and hiding in a Toys “R” Us store. A full description of the footage is as follows:

The teaser begins by showing the outside of a McDonald’s, with Tatum’s Manchester entering through the roof and breaking into one of the locations. He tells the people working there to get into the freezer, but one of them says he’ll be cold.

We see Jeffrey Manchester at his daughter’s birthday party, feeling like a disappointment. The cops arrive and try to arrest him, but he runs away and is tackled. We next see him in prison for a bit.

We see him going into a Toys R’ Us and trying to hide from everyone. His friend tells him that he needs to lay low for several months. He spends his time roaming the halls, playing with toys, skateboarding through the store, all kinds of things. There’s still a lot of action: cars blowing up, robberies, cops chasing him, etc.

The trailer ends with the same people from the first McDonalds being interviewed by the news, with that one guy who said he would be cold telling the news that Manchester gave him his jacket, that he was sweet.

What The Roofman Footage Means For The Movie

Everything Revealed By The Footage

Channing Tatum appeared on stage at CinemaCon 2025 to introduce the footage, saying, “Roofman is really special to me,” suggesting the movie could be a pᴀssion project that carries some sort of special significance for him. Otherwise, Tatum says Roofman is “unbelievably hilarious,” indicating that the film will lean fully into the absurdity of its true story. Jeffrey Manchester would break into McDonald’s locations through the roof and, after herding the staff into freezers, would empty the cash registers.

Manchester evaded capture from the police for months by hiding in the walls of a Toys “R” Us, where he also apparently spent time roaming the halls, playing with toys, and skateboarding through the store. Roofman will also explore some aspects of Manchester’s family life, as the footage shows him at his daughter’s birthday party. However, there will still be plenty of action from explosions, robberies, and police chases.

Our Take On The Roofman Footage

It Presents Jeffrey Manchester As A Likable, Robin Hood-Like Figure

Channing Tatum as Jimmy Logan in Logan Lucky 1

The true story of Jeffrey Manchester, who stole from a multi-hundred-billion-dollar corporation in McDonald’s, could be especially resonant right now in today’s climate of economic frustration and growing discontent towards large corporations. As the footage suggests, Manchester would maintain a gentle and cordial demeanor during the robberies, and almost never resorted to violence. In turn, Roofman could popularize Manchester as a likable, Robin Hood-like figure.

Roofman is scheduled for release on October 3.
