Daredevil: Born Again Just Revealed Why The Young Avengers ᴀssemble In The MCU And What Their Official Team Name Could Be In Convincing Marvel Theory

Wilson Fisk’s latest political move in Daredevil: Born Again may be what gives Ms. Marvel’s Young Avengers team their official MCU name. The MCU’s Young Avengers have been taking shape for several years now. Young heroes like America Chavez, Billy and Tommy Maximoff, Elijah Bradley, and Kate Bishop have made their debut throughout the Multiverse Saga. In The Marvels‘ ending scene, Kamala Khan takes the first clear step toward the creation of a new Avengers team by recruiting Kate Bishop. The next members of Ms. Marvel’s team might include Cᴀssie Lang, Riri Williams, Billy Maximoff, Skaar, and America Chavez.

The MCU’s Young Avengers will inevitably be different from their comic book counterparts. For instance, the MCU’s Young Avengers will likely welcome new heroes who have no connection to the team in the comics, like Skaar and Riri Williams. Besides the Young Avengers’ line-up, their name might end up being different as well. Considering that most of the MCU’s Young Avengers members introduced so far will be much older when they finally ᴀssemble on screen, the “Young” part of their name may be incongruous. Instead, they could adopt the name of a different superhero team from the comics.

Mayor Fisk’s War Against Vigilantes Officially Begins In Daredevil: Born Again Episode 7

Wilson Fisk Turns Muse’s Death Into His Administration’s First Successful Blow Against Vigilantism

Mayor Wilson Fisk has ᴀssembled a police task force to investigate and persecute vigilantes in New York. In Daredevil: Born Again episode 7, Muse fails to kill Heather Glenn, and Fisk’s task force takes the credit for his death. Showing off Muse’s mask to the press, Wilson Fisk announces the first successful apprehension of a masked criminal, which could be seen as the official start of his administration’s war on vigilantism. While there’s a huge difference between Muse’s violent murders and NYC vigilantes’ unlawful crime-fighting, Fisk is painting all masked criminals in the same light.

New York vigilantes who have maintained a positive reputation can also be lumped together with criminals like Muse

Muse’s death gives Fisk the perfect excuse to show New York and the whole world how dangerous all masked criminals can be. It also comes at the perfect time to help Fisk prove the efficiency of a private, government-sanctioned police force with even less accountability than the traditional police department. Now, New York vigilantes who have maintained a positive reputation can also be lumped together with criminals like Muse, and the line between heroes and villains will be blurred in the eyes of the law.

The MCU’s Young Avengers Now Have A Better Motivation To ᴀssemble Than Copying The Original Avengers

The Young Avengers’ First Mission May Be To Oppose Wilson Fisk’s Defamation Campaign

In Marvel Comics, the Young Avengers are ᴀssembled by a young, time-traveling Nathaniel Richards a.k.a. Iron Lad, who brings together the young heroes with the biggest potential to replace the original Avengers. Most of the Young Avengers want to follow in the footsteps of their respective mentors or idols, and they create superhero idenтιтies based on the original heroes. While the MCU’s Young Avengers could have similar motivations in the MCU, they might receive a stronger collective idenтιтy that doesn’t spark unfair comparisons, especially considering that their age likely won’t make them “young” versions of the original team.

In the MCU, Kamala Khan’s team could be targeted by Mayor Fisk’s war on vigilantism, giving them their first mission and main motivation to ᴀssemble. Instead of trying to mirror the Avengers’ larger-than-life battles and inheriting their name, Ms. Marvel’s superhero team could adopt the “Champions” name to subvert their unlawful reputation. In the comics, Kamala Khan ᴀssembles her own team of young superheroes parallel to Iron Lad’s Young Avengers. When Kamala’s team reveals itself to the public, Kamala’s speech about justice through hope earns the team the “Champions” name. Something similar could happen in the MCU thanks to Mayor Fisk’s pressure.

Daredevil: Born Again’s Ms. Marvel Reference May Be More Than An Easter Egg

Daredevil: Born Again Already Referenced Kamala Khan

Mayor Fisk’s war on vigilantism might give Ms. Marvel and her team of Young Avengers their prime motivation to ᴀssemble and name themselves, as well as their first on-screen mission. This idea would only be a theory if not for the fact that Daredevil: Born Again has already connected to the Young Avengers’ leader. Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 took a slight detour from the series’ main plot to bring back Ms. Marvel’s father, Yusuf Khan, who bonds with Matt Murdock when the bank he works for is robbed by a criminal gang. Yusuf Khan even shows Matt Murdock a custom Funko Pop of Ms. Marvel.

Yusuf Khan’s guest appearance in Daredevil: Born Again episode 5 seems like a lighthearted nod to another MCU hero in celebration of Daredevil’s first solo installment in the MCU proper, but it could also become the first seed for a stronger connection between the events of Daredevil: Born Again and the MCU’s Young Avengers (or Champions). Now, how and when Kamala Khan’s Champions will first ᴀssemble on screen is yet to be seen. Ms. Marvel and her fellow young heroes are missing from Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, but they could return in Avengers: Secret Wars or even as a cameo in Spider-Man: Brand New Day.
