Elio CinemaCon Footage: Pixar Takes Viewers On An Intergalactic Adventure

New footage from Elio has debuted at CinemaCon. The 2025 Pixar movie, which was directed by Turning Red‘s Madeline Sharafian and Domee Shi alongside Coco‘s Adrian Molina, sees 11-year-old Elio Solis (Yonas Kibreab) finally achieving his dream of being abducted by extraterrestrials, only to be surrounded by aliens who ᴀssume that he is the ambᴀssador of planet Earth. The cast of the upcoming Elio also includes Zoe Saldaña as Elio’s Aunt Olga, Brad Garrett as the formidable alien Lord Grigon, Remy Edgerly as Grigon’s friendly son Glordon, and Jameela Jamil as the alien ambᴀssador Questa.

At CinemaCon in Las Vegas, where ScreenRant was present, first-look footage from Elio debuted during Disney’s presentation of their upcoming theatrical movie slate. The footage, which provides a closer look at what to expect from the Pixar movie, is not available online. Below, read a full description of what it contains:

The footage begins with Elio being abducted by aliens. When he gets up to the spaceship, a small floating bot scans Elio. It says it’s a liquid supercomputer and gives Elio a drink, compliments of the communi-verse — a community that combines the greatest minds from the universe. Apparently that drink is something everyone is having. Elio is their new “candidate.”

Elio is taken through their community and is introduced to a few new characters. Then he unlocks another computer that knows all of the answers to the universe, like, “What is the meaning of life? What lies beyond a black hole?” But Elio just wants to know who would win between a gorilla and another animal, which the computer sighs and answers “a gorilla.”

Later, Elio meets Glordon. Most of the footage is what has already been shown in the Elio trailer, but with more focus on the friendship between Elio and Glordon, as well as their adventure in space.

What This Means For Elio

It Highlights The Movie’s Most Important Elements

This first-look footage, when compounded with the most recent Elio trailer, which also highlights Elio’s friendship with Glordon, underscores the fact that their cross-species bond is going to be one of the most important elements of the upcoming Pixar movie.

However, the community of aliens depicted in the first trailer similarly remains front and center. This seems to indicate that both sides of the movie will be more or less equally important. This is most likely the case because, when the community is inevitably threatened by the power-hungry Lord Grigon, Elio and Glordon’s friendship will most likely be the only thing that can stop his rampage.

Our Take On The Elio Footage

The Movie Is Pixar’s Most Comedic In Some Time

Ultimately, what this new footage from Elio showcases is the fact that the anticipated 2025 movie is seemingly a pure comedy. While it will most likely feature Pixar’s typical heartstring-pulling, its goofy sense of humor is front and center as opposed to the blend of comedy and drama that can be seen in recent Pixar works such as Inside Out 2 and Elemental.
