Friday 4 Finally Moving Forward As Ice Cube Closes Deal To Return

Ice Cube closes a deal for the fourth Friday movie, тιтled Last Friday, to be developed by New Line and Warner Bros. The rapper, actor, and director starred in all three Friday entries, co-wrote the script for the first movie, and had solo screenplay credits in the two sequels. Previously, he has been vocal about wanting to bring the franchise back, but has struggled to reach an agreement with the studios regarding the rights to the franchise, which includes some of Ice Cube’s all-time best movies.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, New Line president and CCO Richard Brener shared that a deal has been reached with Ice Cube to develop Last Friday. Brener confirmed the franchise’s return after more than 20 years and the upcoming movie’s current state of development. Check out his comment below:

We are making another Friday. We just closed a deal with Ice Cube to write and star. It’s going to be called Last Friday.

What Richard Brener’s Comment Means For The Friday Franchise

Last Friday Marks The Return Of The Friday Franchise

Following Ice Cube’s headline-making comments about the rights dispute with Warner Bros. in 2022, he provided an update in 2024, revealing that the long-awaited fourth Friday entry received some traction after a change of leadership at the studios. He previously rejected the idea of buying the rights back from the studios and was set on a deal where the studios would give him back the rights to make a fourth movie.

In the same interview, Brener shared that the kind of films New Line produced hasn’t changed much over the years, except that they are now more focused on upcoming horror movies than comedies due to demand, which makes the upcoming Friday entry an important тιтle from New Line.

Our Take On Friday 4

Friday 4 Might Be A Hit Among Modern Movie Fans

It’s almost a miracle that Ice Cube gets to resurrect the Friday franchise after over 20 years of little to no development. Though an agreement has been reached by both parties, it’s unclear whether the star got the rights to his movies back. Either way, Last Friday is officially in development, and comedy fans can look forward to enjoying another laughter-filled journey from Ice Cube and DJ Pooh.

In recent years, many 1990s comedy movies have been rediscovered and enjoyed by modern movie fans, which means there’s a market for Last Friday.

The first Friday movie, released in 1995, was a sleeper hit that garnered a cult following, which then led to two commercially successful sequels. However, the reception of the sequels was divisive in comparison to the generally well-received first movie. In recent years, many 1990s comedy movies have been rediscovered and enjoyed by modern movie fans, which means there’s a market for Last Friday.
