“You Suck At Planning”: The Weapons Handling In Taylor Sheridan & Denis Villeneuve’s Oscar-Nominated Action Thriller “Is What Is So Wrong About The Movies,” Says Special Ops Expert

Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve are undeniably two of the most respected people in Hollywood. After writing movies such as Hell or High Water, which was nominated for Best Picture, and Wind River, Sheridan has created several of the most successful shows of all time. The acclaimed writer’s best shows include Yellowstone and its spinoffs, 1883 and 1923, as well as Tulsa King, Mayor of Kingstown, and Landman. It is incredible how many high-quality shows Sheridan has generated in just a few years.

Meanwhile, Villeneuve has earned a reputation as one of the best directors currently working in Hollywood. Denis Villeneuve’s best movies include Prisoners, Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, and two Dune films. While he has become known as a master of the science fiction genre, Villeneuve has also shown an interest in the thriller and crime genres. In fact, one of Villeneuve’s best movies was a crime film that was released in 2015, which was written by Sheridan.

An Army Special Ops Soldier Gives Sicario An Underwhelming Accuracy Score

Bob Keller Reviewed Sicario’s Border Crossing Scene

Bob Keller, a former United States Army Special Forces and Delta Force operator, reviewed the border crossing scene in Sicario. The 2015 film, which was directed by Villeneuve and written by Sheridan, follows FBI agent Kate Macer, who gets recruited to join a task force that combats cartels in the war against drugs. The cast of the film includes Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, Benicio del Toro, and Daniel Kaluuya. Upon its release, reviews for Sicarior were incredible, and ScreenRant gave the film a score of 9 out of 10.

Even though the movie has received a lot of acclaim, Keller wasn’t impressed by some aspects of the border crossing scene in Sicario. In a video for Insider, Keller reviews the scene, and claims that it was unrealistic since the special ops unit should have gone across the desert rather than a busy road. Additionally, he criticizes some of the weapons handling in the scene. Despite these criticisms, Keller gave the scene an accuracy rating of 7 out of 10. Read his comments and watch the full video below:

Unrealistic. Not gonna happen, or shouldn’t happen. If it does, you sucked at planning. Yeah, so they were going in to extradite one of the drug lord’s brother to get him out to bring him back to the United States. Could it happen? Yes. I mean, there’s things that happen at the unit that you might not know about. I can’t actually say, ‘Yes, I know of this happening.’ But if you did have unit guys on that OP, they wouldn’t be going out on those vehicles. You’re probably going to go across the desert, you’re not gonna go across the border where everyone’s at. Like why not get him in a helicopter and then fly out?

Finger on trigger, holding a gun. Not good. Just typical in all the movies, right? Like just what is so wrong about the movies is the weapons handling, which his is on the trigger right there and he’s not pulling the trigger, or he’s not engaging. Finger should always be off the trigger.

Our Take On Keller’s Score For Sicario

Despite This Rating, Sicario Is Still Amazing

Even though it didn’t get the best rating, even Keller admitted that this scene is very entertaining. In my opinion, the border crossing scene is one of the tensest and thrilling scenes in the entire movie. Therefore, it is interesting to see someone who has actually worked on special ops teams dissect it. Overall, Sicario is a great film, through which Taylor Sheridan and Denis Villeneuve proved that they are an amazing team. After the success of Sicario, I would love to see the writer and director team up again.
