Stephen King’s Excellent Year Just Got Even Better Thanks To New Movie Announcement

A movie adaptation of The Long Walk is on the way, with this new movie announcement making Stephen King’s excellent year even better. Film adaptations of Stephen King stories release nearly every year, with King adaptations like The Shining and It being some of the most famous movies of all time. 2025 will see the introduction of four new Stephen King movies, with fans of the author undoubtedly rejoining about the release of The Long Walk and the other two films.

The Long Walk is a 1979 novel by Stephen King, with a film adaptation of the movie having its release date announced during Lionsgate’s panel at CinemaCon, which ScreenRant was present at. The novel is set in a dystopian version of the United States, with it telling the story of a compeтιтion in which participants are forced to walk, with them being killed if they stop. The Long Walk stands out from many of King’s other projects, with this making a movie adaptation incredibly exciting.

The Long Walk Has Officially Joined Stephen King’s 2025 Movie Lineup

It Will Be King’s Third 2025 Film

At CinemaCon 2025, the Lionsgate panel highlighted The Long Walk, revealing that the movie will be released on September 12, 2025. A film adaptation of The Long Walk has been in the works for years, with George A. Romero talking about the project back in 1988. However, the Lionsgate version was announced in November 2023, with it being in development until the release date was announced at CinemaCon 2025.

Interestingly, The Long Walk will actually be the third Stephen King film adaptation to release in 2025. The Monkey was the first one, with it releasing on February 21, 2025. The second film will be The Life of Chuck, which releases on June 6, 2025. Now, The Long Walk will be the third Stephen King movie adaptation of this year, with it releasing on September 12, 2025. Finally, The Running Man will release on November 7, 2025.

The Long Walk Adds More Genre Versatility To Stephen King’s 2025 Movies

It Is Set In A Dystopia

Adding The Long Walk to the 2025 release calendar is a good thing, as it adds more genre versatility to Stephen King’s 2025 movies. Although there are three King movies coming out, all of them feel completely different. The Monkey is a campy horror movie, with it mixing comedic gore with dark storylines. The Life of Chuck is a sci-fi fantasy movie that follows the life of an accountant.

Meanwhile, The Long Walk is a dark dystopian movie, with it being unique among King’s stories. This means that, even if an audience sees all four of 2025’s Stephen King movies, they will have four entirely different experiences. Thus, The Long Walk is a perfect addition to King’s 2025.
