A24’s Talk To Me 2 Gets Major Script Update As Directors Reveal When They Will Prioritize The Horror Sequel

Talk to Me 2 receives a major script update as directors Danny and Michael Philippou reveal when they will prioritize the horror sequel. Written and directed by the Philippou brothers in their feature debut, the A24 horror film follows a group of teenagers who contact spirits using a severed hand, with Talk to Me‘s cast including Sophie Wilde, Alexandra Jensen, Miranda Otto, Zoe Terakes, and Jacek Koman. Released in theaters in 2023, the movie was a mᴀssive critical and commercial success, leading to the development of a sequel from the Philippous.

Now, two years after it was announced, Talk to Me 2 has received a major update. During an interview with IndieWire, Danny Philippou revealed that he and his co-writer Bill Hinzman have two scripts for the sequel, which follow a different character and storyline, but they can’t decide which route to take. However, Philippou might not make that decision anytime soon, as he and his brother have several other projects in the works. Read his full comments below:

A part of it is, I can’t decide which is the best avenue to take… So I’d say 2025 Bring Her Back, 2026 the documentary, 2027 [the new] horror, and then Talk to Me 2. So when we’re like 50, we’ll do Talk to Me 2.

What Danny Philippou’s Comments Mean For Talk To Me 2

It Will Be Delayed By Other Projects

In August 2023, a month after Talk to Me was released in theaters, Danny and Michael Philippou confirmed that a sequel was in the works, revealing that they had already written several scenes. Later that month, A24 officially announced the sequel, тιтled Talk 2 Me, and even unveiled its official logo. Now, two years later, Danny Philippou revealed that he and Hinzman have written two separate scripts, each focusing on a different character and storyline, but are unable to decide which direction to take.

The Philippous also have several other projects in the works that are delaying the development of Talk to Me 2. After finishing post-production on their upcoming A24 horror movie, Bring Her Back, they are heading to Mexico to film a documentary about death match wrestling, and will spend the latter half of 2025 editing that project. Meanwhile, Danny will be collaborating with Hinzman on another secret horror film. Once that script is completed, he plans to return to Talk to Me 2 and refine the screenplay with a fresh perspective.

Our Take On Talk To Me 2’s Development

It May Take Years

Talk to Me reviews were overwhelmingly positive, and it went on to become A24’s highest-grossing horror film at $91.9 million. With the Philippou brothers expressing interest in a sequel, it makes sense for A24 to support them. However, it’s also understandable that the Philippous want to explore other projects before tackling the sequel. Though it may take several more years until Talk to Me 2 comes together, the same audience hungering for more horror should still be there.
