With Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse finding critical and commercial success, attention is now shifting to the franchise’s third film, тιтled Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which will continue Miles Morales’s wall-crawling adventures as he attempts to stop Spot’s destruction of the multiverse. Straying away from the familiar take on Peter Parker’s origin story, the Spider-Verse series kicked off a new cinematic adventure for Spider-Man, starting with 2018’s Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. The Oscar-winning animated film focused on Miles Morales, a younger Spider-Man who collaborates with many other Spider-People from alternate universes to take down the Kingpin.
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse’s universal coming-of-age themes, coupled with a talented voice cast and a stellar hip-hop soundtrack, ensured its near-unanimous positive reception, and Across the Spider-Verse followed suit. While multiversal crossovers and character variants are no longer rare in superhero media, the Spider-Verse franchise’s immense number of Spider-Man cameos and beautiful art style give it a unique place in the market. While it may not be the end for Miles, Gwen, and the others, Beyond the Spider-Verse will bring Sony’s animated trilogy to a close.

Beyond The Spider-Verse Finally Has A Release Date
After years of speculation about when Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse would finally arrive, the official release date has finally been revealed. At CinemaCon 2025, Sony announced that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be released on June 4, 2027. This would mark five years since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse blew everyone away, and nearly nine years since Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse kicked off what could very well be one of the best superhero trilogies of all time if Beyond the Spider-Verse sticks the landing.
Better late than never feels apt for this movie franchise, especially given the cliffhanger Across the Spider-Verse left on. Alongside the release date, a brief clip was shown during Sony’s presentation, as well as producer Christopher Miller posting to X a first-look at what to expect from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse. The Miles variant of Prowler takes center stage, which feels appropriate after he comes face-to-face with Miles Morales. It also gives a glimpse of what to expect from the look of the film, which looks just as beautiful as the first two movies in the trilogy.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Release Date
Beyond The Spider-Verse Will Be Released In 2027
When it was announced in 2021, along with Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Beyond the Spider-Verse was set for a March 29, 2024, release date. However, in July 2023, Sony announced Beyond the Spider-Verse had been removed from the studio’s release calendar. After years of waiting, Sony finally confirmed at CinemaCon 2025 that Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will be released on June 4, 2027, over three years since it was originally slated.
With such a high bar set by Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, the longer production period looks set to benefit the finale to the trilogy in the long run by ensuring that the third movie can live up to expectations. Since Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse arguably needs to be the most intricate installment in the trilogy – in order to provide a proper sendoff to the story, and give the last chapter all the action and excitement that’s been set up for the finale.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Is Confirmed
The Spider-Verse Trilogy Will Conclude With Beyond The Spider-Verse
In terms of the talent behind the scenes on Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, Justin K. Thompson (Co-director of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and production designer on Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse), and Bob Persichetti (Co-director of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse) will be directing the final film in the trilogy. Regarding writing duties, the trio will still rely on the Spider-Verse franchise’s producers, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who will be co-writing the screenplay with Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings scribe David Callahan.
In 2021, Lord and Miller explained that they had too many ideas to fit into one movie, prompting them to divide the story into two sequels instead. The duo will be joined again by Spider-Man franchise producers Avi Arad, Amy Pascal, and Christina Steinberg.
Initially тιтled “Across the Spider-Verse Part Two”, the third installment was later given the name Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, though it’s still very much one continuous story. It is worth noting that The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse story was released as an 8-minute spinoff tie-in between Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse‘s release and the debut of Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, though the installment doesn’t serve to bridge the narrative gap between the two, and rather exists as a short that fleshes more out about Miles’ struggles in partnerships with charities intended to raise awareness about mental health.
The Spider-Man movie timeline has had some additional light shed on it by Spider-Man film producer Amy Pascal. Pascal confirmed in an interview with Variety that Spider-Man 4 and Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse are the next release priorities before the prospective live-action Miles Morales movie that has been teased as “in the works.“

With Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse still focusing on Miles Morales, Shameik Moore is expected to return for voice duties, and, given the cliffhanger ending of Across the Spider-Verse, the rest of the Spider-Verse main cast will likely be returning as well. Hailee Steinfeld’s Spider-Woman and Jake Johnson’s Peter B. Parker are set to play a big role in the trilogy closer, as are the members of the newly-formed spider-team: Spider-Man Noir (Nicolas Cage), Peni Parker (Kimiko Glenn), Spider-Ham (John Mulaney) Spider-Punk (Daniel Kaluuya), Pavitr Prabhakar (Karan Soni), and Spider-Byte (Amandla Stenberg).
The same can be said for Miles’s current opposition, Spot (Jason Schwartzman), Spider-Woman (Issa Rae), Spider-Man 2099 (Oscar Isaac), and a variant of Aaron Davis (Mahershala Ali). Given the strong family-centric themes that dominate Miles’s adolescent hero arc, it is certain that both Brian Tyree Henry and Luna Lauren Vélez will yet again be heard as the hero’s parents in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Finally, the nature of Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse‘s multiversal story makes the prospect of new characters appearing even as the last chapter of the trilogy begins highly likely, even if these new faces only appear in a cameo capacity. While the prior two movies certainly provided a considerable number of Spider-People, there’s also always the prospect of introducing more, particularly since many viewers are holding out hope for Tom Holland’s Peter Parker to appear in the last film in the trilogy.
Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse Story Details
Across The Spider-Verse Ended On A Cliffhanger
Details around the plot of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse have been kept under wraps, but the mᴀssive cliffhanger ending of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse gives a solid indication of where the story is going. In Across the Spider-Verse, Miles finds himself at odds with the Spider Society for attaining powers he shouldn’t have and causing a domino effect that threatens the interconnected realities of all spider-people. Running away from Spider-Man 2099 to try and change his father’s fate, Miles finds himself stuck in the hostile, Spider-Man-less Earth 42.
While Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse will open with Miles confronting his own variant – who has become the Prowler – Gwen and her newly formed team of allies will try to save him. However, based on unused Spider-Verse test footage involving the variant Miles and his Uncle Aaron nabbing medical supplies to help others, and the description of Prowler Miles as a “vigilante” in Spider-Verse concept art, it appears Spider-Man is more likely to team up with the seemingly actually well-intentioned duo, and eventually win them over after their less-than-friendly first meeting.
Of course, Miles will likely need extra allies, given all of this will happen while Miguel O’Hara attempts to preserve the multiversal canon, and Spot continues his growth into a truly terrifying embodiment of multiversal travel.
The Spider-Verse’s main Miles Morales voice actor, Shameik Moore, also teased more of what to expect from Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse in a February 2024 interview, stating:
“Action…you can expect Miles and Gwen. You can expect everything [laughs] you’re expecting the continuation from the second one. You can expect to see The Spot; you can expect some action-packed energy and some dilemmas and problems to solve.”
Bryan Tyree Henry, voice actor for Miles Morales’ dad, talked a little bit about what to expect from Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse in terms of emotional payoff, which could mean some truly tear-jerking moments throughout the film. His statement is as follows:
There’s not going to be a dry eye in the house. I’ll tell you that. Good luck. It’s not going to wrap up in a nice little bow what things do.
The driving force behind Miles’ actions in the back-half of Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse is about him not being able to just let his dad die because it is a canon event, setting the stage for Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and the emotional payoff that could be. This will most likely be the main throughline for the film, and given Bryan Tyree Henry’s comments, could be emotionally wrecking.
The Spider-Verse Could Continue After Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse
Beyond The Spider-Verse Might Not Be The Official End
Though the lack of plot specifics known about Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse means audiences can’t know exactly what will happen, it has been confirmed that the movie will close out the main storyline. Though the events of the sequel already suggested its follow-up would be the final movie in the series, Phil Lord and Christopher Miller confirmed in a June 2023 interview with Entertainment Online that the installment would be “the end of Miles Morales’ trilogy.“
However, there are other spinoffs in the Spider-Verse series, including the released The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story, as well as other releases like Spider-Woman, and Spider-Man: Octopus Girl. As such, there is a chance that the Spider-Verse will continue after Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse, and potentially continue long after if the overall franchise proves popular enough, meaning the trilogy could be the origins of an entirely new expansive on-screen multiverse alongside the MCU.
