28 Years Later CinemaCon Trailer Reveals That Time Is Running Out For The Survivors

28 Years Later gets a closer look at CinemaCon. The influential zombie franchise that began with 28 Days Later will return this summer with a new installment, and it’ll kick off a brand-new trilogy. Original director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland have returned for the new movie. 28 Years Later‘s cast includes Ralph Fiennes, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Jack O’Connell, and Erin Kellyman.

During Sony’s CinemaCon presentation, where ScreenRant was in attendance, the studio shared new details about 28 Years Later, including a trailer. Boyle presented the trailer and discussed how the second movie in the trilogy, 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple, has already been made, but that the third installment still requires financing. The Bone Temple‘s director, Nia DaCosta, also made an appearance and spoke about her enduring love for the franchise. Check out a description of the 28 Years Later trailer below:

The trailer opens up on three guys in military gear in a dark room, with one zombie popping out at them. Next we see an island, with a voiceover saying, “many people ᴅᴇᴀᴅ… infected and non-infected alike.” “Once you walk onto that mainland, there’s no rescue.” We see Aaron Taylor-Johnson and a boy running away from about a dozen infected. Then the military guys again, but this time during the day, also running away from the infected. We see several dozen scenes of people fighting and running from infected. Lots of it seems to take place around the island and near water. Throughout the trailer, splash pages read: “How Much Time…Do We…Have Left?”

What This Means For 28 Years Later

The Stakes Are Already High In The New Trilogy

With 28 Years Later being the franchise’s third film, and the first in the new trilogy, it needs to further escalate the stakes of the post-apocalyptic world. The CinemaCon trailer teases that achieving this will be no problem, as it creates a sense of urgency as Taylor-Johnson’s Jamie and his son flee for their lives while being chased by the infected. Even the military is sent on the run by the infected, and the “How Much Time Do We Have Left?” splash pages cement that their time is running out.

As 28 Years Later‘s тιтle indicates, the new movie is set nearly three decades after the outbreak of the Rage Virus, but time has not made things any easier. The trailer highlights this with the focus on how many of the infected and non-infected have been killed. While there is some safety on the island where some of the characters have found refuge, the mainland is perilous, and it will be the focal point of the new movie’s thrilling horror and action.

Our Take On The 28 Days Later Trailer

It Will Take The Franchise To Another Level

The 28 Years Later trailer further solidifies it as one of the most anticipated movies of 2025. It looks like a captivating continuation of the franchise that expands the foundation of the previous movies in rewarding ways. There is already a sense of high stakes that is needed to make the new trilogy compelling from the start. Having The Bone Temple already made is a good sign as well, as it ensures that 28 Years Later can end in a satisfying way that does an effective job of paving the way for the sequel.
