Kendrick Lamar’s Movie With South Park Creators Gets New 2026 Release Date

Kendrick Lamar

‘s upcoming movie collaboration with South Park

creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker moves to 2026. First announced back in 2022 and set to release in summer 2025, the unтιтled upcoming film features Lamar, Stone, and Parker all producing alongside filmmaker Dave Free with a script from screenwriter Vernon Chatman. Lamar, of course, is best known for his career as a rapper, recently performing at the Super Bowl LIX halftime show, while Stone and Parker created the animated South Park Comedy Central sitcom, which is returning for season 27.

ᴅᴇᴀᴅline now reports that Paramount’s unтιтled Lamar collaboration with Stone and Parker will now release on March 20, 2026, moving from its July 4, 2025 date. The move is reportedly to accommodate Lamar’s upcoming global tour, which kicks off on April 19, while Stone and Parker focus on South Park season 27. Stone and Parker produce the film for Park County, while Lamar and Dave Free produce for pgLang.

South Park season 27 doesn’t have a release date just yet, but it is expected to premiere in 2025.

What This Means For The Unтιтled Lamar/ Parker/ Stone Movie

It Shifts Away From Some Major Releases

The report cited above mentions that there is no official plot information available for the upcoming film, but a previous 2022 report from ᴅᴇᴀᴅline did feature story information. According to this previous report, the film will be about a Black man working as a slave reenactor at a history museum who comes to learn that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his. It’s possible that this information is no longer correct and that the film changed directions. This was over three years ago, after all.

As for the release date, this shift to 2026 means it now won’t be competing against the upcoming Jurᴀssic World Rebirth (July 2) or James Gunn’s Superman (July 11). Instead, it will now release in the vicinity of Amazon MGM’s Project Hail Mary, a sci-fi starring Ryan Gosling, and I Can Only Imagine 2, a faith-based movie from Lionsgate. The full picture for its release window should become clear in the coming months as more dates are nailed down.

Our Take On The Unтιтled Movie’s New Release Date

Will It Be Controversial?

South Park episode Casa Bonita

Given Parker and Stone’s involvement, audiences can probably expect some degree of controversy with the unтιтled film, regardless of when it releases. South Park continues to push boundaries with its humor, often proving controversial as it explores issues relating to race, gender, class, and politics. Parker and Stone were also the team behind Team America: World Police in 2004, which, like South Parker, features a style of comedy that won’t be for everyone.

In an age where theatrically-released comedies are a rarity, though, the upcoming project is a welcome one. Lamar remains as popular as ever as a rapper, and his involvement could certainly give the project a boost, especially if it also has a viral marketing element surrounding its premise. South Park, too, remains a hit for Comedy Central. If the upcoming movie is successful, it could end up paving the way for more major studio comedies in the years ahead.
