I’m So Worried Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars Ends The Fox X-Men Universe Just After We Got It Back Based On The Newest Avengers Movie Cast Updates

Avengers: Doomsday has recently confirmed one of the most exciting casts that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has yet seen, but certain details included on that list make me worried that the universe of the Fox X-Men movies will be destroyed. With so many X-Men characters confirmed to be in Doomsday, I believe that the multiversal film will take place partially in the MCU and partially in the Fox universe. However, the events of this planned story suggest that only one of these universes may be able to survive in the end.

With the incredible box office success of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, it is clear that audiences are still invested in characters from Fox’s universe. The film featured a handful of mutants, including Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who is planned to recur in Doomsday. While the events of that movie seemed to give a semblance of closure, the suggested cast for this new movie may suggest otherwise. Despite ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool not being confirmed for the cast, Doomsday may follow up on the events of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 3 in worrisome ways.

Avengers: Doomsday & Secret Wars’ Stories Suggest The MCU Is About To Have A Multiversal Clash

The MCU Will Likely Only Be Left With One Universe

The MCU has tended to adapt many of their comic book inspirations quite liberally, but it is hard to imagine a version of Avengers: Secret Wars that does not see the destruction of every other universe. The comic book arc that the film is based on gathers all kinds of heroes from every universe, bringing them together to fight for the survival of their own timeline. This occurs on Battleworld, and sees heroes and villains alike teaming up to fight for the survival of themselves and their entire world.

With the setup from previous MCU films, and with explorations of details from the comics like incursions, it seems that the MCU is setting up for this same story. Universes are set to collide, including the world of the X-Men, the world of The Fantastic Four: First Steps, and any others that may exist from other Marvel projects, inside and outside the MCU. This is a tense and exciting proposition, but I can’t help worrying about what this suggests may occur when the film comes to a resounding close.

Avengers: Doomsday’s Cast List Appears To Put The Fox X-Men Universe On The Chopping Block

Earth-616 Is ᴀssumed To Survive The Events Of Secret Wars

Marvel’s multiverse of franchises is set to be whittled down, and there will certainly be major changes that occur after the events of Secret Wars. However, the most likely result of the film’s ending is that the MCU’s universe will be the only one to survive. As this is the most vital Marvel franchise, and Disney surely wants it to continue, I believe that this is absolutely necessary. However, this also suggests that many of the Doomsday cast members from other universes will see their worlds die. This includes the Fox universe of X-Men.

I believe that the best case scenario for characters like Nightcrawler, Magneto, Beast, and others would be for them to be brought to Earth-616. With the clashing of universes set to play a major part in the story of Secret Wars, it seems almost inevitable that their world will be destroyed. This would allow the film to show stakes and actual ramifications, but only by doing away with a franchise that has already ended. Still, this event would complicate the conclusion of a recent film.

I’m So Hoping The MCU Doesn’t Destroy The Fox X-Men Universe Just After ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine Saved It

This Possibility Would Undo The Events Of ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine

The universe of the X-Men was already slated to be destroyed after the loss of their anchor being at the end of Logan, but ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine saved it. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool brought in a Wolverine from another universe and fought valiantly against this goal. In the end, the heroes were able to save the day and leave the universe able to survive for a while longer. The film ends on an emotional note, reflecting on the past years of Fox X-Men films and how they have finally come to an end.

However, even the announcement of the X-Men returning for Doomsday suggests that ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine lied about the end of this universe. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool may have saved the universe, but the events of Secret Wars suggest that it will already be in peril once again. While I’m excited to see these X-Men characters recur in the new film, I hope that I am wrong about the story, and that the film finds a thoughtful way to tie up Secret Wars without hurting ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool 3‘s ending.

I’m excited to see the X-Men once again, and especially to see characters like Cyclops and Mystique enter the Marvel Cinematic Universe in Avengers: Doomsday. However, I’m also worried about what this could mean for their universe. ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine gave such a satisfying ending to the Fox films, and it will be difficult to find a way to bring those characters back in a way that feels satisfying, especially if their universe is going to be destroyed. I hope and trust that the MCU knows what they’re doing.
