Sandra Bullock’s Forgotten Horror-Thriller Enjoys Second Life On Streaming 18 Years After 8% RT Failure

A Sandra Bullock horror-thriller movie that was widely disliked at the time has found a new audience on streaming. The actor had her breakout when she starred opposite Keanu Reeves in the 1994 action-thriller Speed, going on to a cadre of other successful projects. The best-known Sandra Bullock movies are likely her comedies such as Miss Congeniality, While You Were Sleeping, The Proposal, and The Heat, though she has starred in movies from many genres including sci-fi тιтles like Gravity (for which she was nominated for an Oscar) and dramas like The Blind Side (for which she won Best Actress).

While the star is best known for other genres, there have been some Sandra Bullock horror movies produced over the years. Her most prominent is probably the 2018 post-apocalyptic monster movie Bird Box, which is Netflix’s fifth most-watched movie in history at the time of writing. However, she has also starred in the 1993 psychological thriller The Vanishing (a remake of the French-Dutch movie Spoorloos) and a 2007 movie that was poorly received at the time but has found new success on streaming.

It Has Hit A Major Top 10 Chart

Premonition is now making its way up a major streaming chart. The movie, which is told in non-chronological order, follows a married woman named Linda Hanson (Sandra Bullock) who attempts to prevent the death of her husband Jim (Julian McMahon) when she seems to be having premonitions of the harrowing ordeal throughout the days leading up to it. The movie was a critical failure, earning 8% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and 50% from audiences, though it was a commercial success, grossing $84.1 million against its $20 million budget.

Premonition was directed by Mennan Yapo (Soundless) from a screenplay by Bill Kelly (Enchanted).

Now, Premonition has made its way onto the daily Hulu chart of the Top 10 most-watched movies on the platform. After joining the streamer’s library on March 15, it appeared at No. 7 on the chart on March 24, rising to No. 5 on March 26 and 27, then settling to No. 6 at the time of writing. In addition to being the oldest movie on the chart, it is the highest-ranking movie from the 2000s on the entire platform.

The movies separating it from the top of the chart are all 2020s releases, including the Oscar nominee A Complete Unknown and the Best Picture winner Anora. Below, see the current Top 10 movies:

What This Means For Premonition

Sandra Bullock Is Still A Strong Draw

Because Premonition turned a profit in theaters, this streaming success will still most likely not move the needle on it getting a sequel. However, the fact that both it and The Proposal are doing well on Hulu shows that audiences are still seeking out Sandra Bullock movies. This could spell good news for the actor’s eventual return to the big screen, as she has not starred in a movie since taking a small role in the Bullet Train cast in 2022, returning the favor after star Brad Pitt made a cameo in her rom-com The Lost City that same year.
