Thunderbolts* Runtime Listed By Theaters (But Is It Real?)

The full Thunderbolts*‘ runtime has been revealed, but previous MCU movies suggest it may not be completely accurate. The countdown for Thunderbolts* May 2 2025 release has started, and its promotional material has kicked into overdrive. Sentry’s fully costumed appearance, the Thunderbolts tower, and the тιтular team’s one-sided fight against an unstoppable threat have been at the center of Thunderbolts*‘ trailers and clips. Roughly one month ahead of the movie’s release, Thunderbolts* receives another update.

According to Regal‘s theatrical listing for Thunderbolts* (via Thunderbolts* News), Thunderbolts*‘ runtime is two hours and six minutes. If accurate, Thunderbolts*‘ runtime would be the exact same as Phase 2 and Phase 5’s average movie runtime. Yet, with the same runtime as 2008’s Iron Man and 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Thunderbolts* would be in the bottom half of the MCU’s runtime rankings.

What The Thunderbolts* Regal Cinemas Runtime Means For The MCU Movie

Thunderbolts*’ Official Runtime May Be Slightly Different

Usually, different theaters list different runtimes for every movie ahead of its release. This has applied to MCU movies as recent as Captain America: Brave New World and ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine. Since Regal announced Thunderbolts*‘ runtime, Odeon has unveiled a different number: two hours and twenty minutes. Regal and Odeon‘s runtime for Thunderbolts* is probably a placeholder, which will be replaced with the final, official runtime provided by Marvel Studios a few days or a couple of weeks before Thunderbolts*‘ theatrical release date.

Odeon‘s runtime for Thunderbolts* would push Thunderbolts* to the top half of the MCU’s runtime rankings. However, taking into account Regal and Odeon‘s numbers, Thunderbolts*‘ official runtime might be in the middle. Thunderbolts* is unlikely to be shorter than two hours (top eight shortest MCU movies) or longer than two hours and twenty-three minutes (top seven longest MCU movies). Historically, short MCU movies have largely been reserved for solo characters, while long MCU movies have been mostly reserved for big crossover events.

Our Take On The Thunderbolts* Regal Cinemas Runtime

A Two-Hour Runtime Is Ideal For Thunderbolts*

Two hours and ten minutes, give or take, sounds like an ideal runtime for Thunderbolts*. Thunderbolts* brings together multiple characters from several MCU movies and shows, so it needs enough time to catch up with each member of the тιтular team. It also needs enough time to set up Valentina Allegra de Fontaine’s motivations and Sentry’s full potential as an unbeatable villain. On the other hand, Thunderbolts*‘ main members don’t have a backstory as large and complex as most of the Avengers did when they returned for crossover movies like Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.
