Why Tom Holland Wasn’t Confirmed As Part Of Marvel’s Avengers: Doomsday Cast Reportedly Revealed (It Has To Do With The MCU’s Spider-Man 4)

Marvel confirmed some of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday, but Tom Holland wasn’t part of the initial announcement, and his absence has everything to do with Spider-Man 4. On March 26, Marvel shared an extensive live stream featuring set chairs with the names of the cast of Avengers: Doomsday. The roster included many familiar names, like Chris Hemsworth, Sebastian Stan, Anthony Mackie, and Robert Downey Jr., and some newer ones like Pedro Pascal and Channing Tatum. However, one surprising missing MCU actor is Tom Holland, who plays Spider-Man.

Many wondered what Holland’s next step in the MCU would be after Spider-Man: No Way Home. The studio announced that he’s returning for Spider-Man 4, but that doesn’t include Avengers: Doomsday. According to a report from The Insneider, Holland’s Spider-Man’s absence from the next Avengers film is “more about the character’s schedule.” Spider-Man 4 releases on July 31, 2026, two months after Doomsday‘s release. The film supposedly takes place at the same time as Doomsday, meaning Spidey won’t rejoin the Avengers just yet.

What The Avengers: Doomsday Tom Holland Casting Report Means

The Holland casting report suggests that Marvel wants to focus on Peter’s story before his next crossover event. No Way Home ended with a mᴀssive change in Peter Parker’s life. Doctor Strange wiped away the world’s memory of Peter, meaning no one knows who he is or that he’s Spider-Man. Marvel seemingly knows it needs to catch up viewers on what he’s been doing since then before throwing him in another Avengers film.

It also allows Marvel to tie the events of Spider-Man 4 with Doomsday, teasing the next film. If viewers only watch Spider-Man films, then they will have to watch Avengers: Secret Wars to see what happens next. It’s similar to what Marvel did with 2018’s Ant-Man and the Wasp. The movie had nothing to do with Avengers: Infinity War, but the post-credit scene tied back to those events, indicating Ant-Man would return in Endgame. It wouldn’t be surprising if Marvel did something similar with Spider-Man 4, based on the film’s release date.

Our Take On The Avengers: Doomsday Tom Holland Casting Report

Spider-Man’s absence from Avengers: Doomsday is what’s best for the character. While Spider-Man is still active in the MCU, as confirmed by Kingpin in Daredevil: Born Again, none of the Avengers know who Peter is or how to contact him. Plus, Peter needs time to focus on rebuilding himself after losing all his relationships in the last film.

Marvel has also been teasing that Spider-Man 4 could be a street-level story in New York. This would be a better way to get Spider-Man back into the MCU before joining another multiverse adventure. It will be cool to see how Avengers: Doomsday affects Spider-Man 4, but Marvel needs to focus on giving Peter the best possible arc before making him an Avenger again.
