The Odyssey Set PH๏τos Reveal Zendaya Filming With A Very Bearded Matt Damon In Early Look At Christopher Nolan’s New Epic

The Odyssey

gets a new batch of set pH๏τos, revealing Zendaya in character for the first time in Christopher Nolan’s historical epic. Serving as the filmmaker’s follow-up to Oppenheimer (2023), the upcoming blockbuster is an adaptation of Homer’s ancient tale, which follows Odysseus’ arduous journey home after the Trojan War. Nolan’s take on The Odyssey features Matt Damon starring as Odysseus, with Zendaya reportedly playing Athena. Other cast members include Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson, Jon Bernthal, and Charlize Theron, among others.

Christopher Nolan media on X, formerly Twitter, now shares two new pH๏τos from the set of The Odyssey, showing Zendaya wearing white robes in a rocky location, which could be a beach. One of the pH๏τos features the actor standing next to a man with a boom mic as a woman adjusts her costume, while another shows her looking over her shoulder and smiling.

Four more images from arun dominic show a fuller view of the set, with Nolan himself seen standing above Damon, who sits shirtless and in ragged pants on a bed of pebbles. Damon sports a long beard and sits next to another figure who appears to be cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. Zendaya is shown in this image crouched down on the beach next to a camera operator. The other two images show Zendaya and Damon seemingly in transit from one part of the set to another, while another shows her laughing next to a man in a white shirt. What The Set PH๏τos Mean For The Odyssey

How Zendaya’s Athena Could Fit Into The Story

While the first promotional image for The Odyssey did reveal a look at Damon in character, he was wearing armor and looking ready for battle. These new images above are the first time his non-armored look has been revealed, and it certainly looks as if he has just survived a shipwreck or some kind of sea calamity. Not only does the location look like a pebble beach, but it appears that Damon’s ripped pants are wet from the thigh down. This would fit with other Odyssey set images, which have shown Nolan directing from aboard a recreation of an ancient wooden warship.

Damon will certainly be involved in some epic action sequences in The Odyssey, but Zendaya, if she is playing Athena, could be a crucial figure as well. In Homer’s original story, Athena champions Odysseus on Mount Olympus before a council of the Gods, and she is also a source of great wisdom for both the story’s central hero and his son, Telemachus. Holland is rumored to be playing the role of Telemachus in The Odyssey.

Damon and Nolan have previously collaborated on both the acclaimed Oppenheimer and on 2014’s Interstellar.

Our Take On The New Odyssey Set PH๏τos

Zendaya Could Be A Standout

Chani, played by Zendaya, stares angrily at Paul Atreides in Dune: Part Two. She is surrounded by other Fremen fighters, and she has a look of betrayal.

With more than a year to go until The Odyssey actually releases in theaters, more promotional images and confirmation of who is playing who in the cast are likely the next pieces of official promotion that will arrive for the Nolan movie. What has been revealed in set pH๏τos and videos thus far has thankfully kept much of the mystery alive about The Odyssey, but the latest images are sure to generate even more excitement about the project.

After stealing the show in the acclaimed Dune: Part Two, Zendaya’s star power only continues to rise. She may not be playing the lead in The Odyssey, but, as Athena, she could certainly be a standout character, even in a cast with so many heavy hitters. With filming on The Odyssey still ongoing, there are certain to be more set pH๏τos released on social media in the coming weeks.
