A Complete Unknown, the hit Bob Dylan biopic that earned Timothée Chalamet his second Oscar nod for Best Actor, is now available to stream on Hulu. The 2025 Best Actor race quickly boiled down to two frontrunners: Chalamet for his portrayal of Dylan in A Complete Unknown and Adrien Brody for his portrayal of a Holocaust survivor chasing the American Dream in The Brutalist. Ultimately, Brody won the award, but Chalamet still scored some of the best reviews of his career.

As of March 27, A Complete Unknown is streaming on Hulu following an impressive 92-day theatrical run. This was a great movie to watch on the big screen, because A Complete Unknown’s live in-camera musical performances give it the atmosphere of a concert film, but it’s still worth checking out at home. Brody gave a great performance in The Brutalist, keeping the audience captivated for a whopping three-and-a-half hours with László Tóth’s tragic journey, but Chalamet completely embodied Dylan. He got Dylan’s singing voice, speaking voice, and instrumental work spot-on, and even managed to capture his indescribable aura.

Whereas most musician biopics get swept up in the artist’s personal drama, A Complete Unknown puts the focus squarely on the music. It charts Dylan’s evolution as an artist and the resistance from the stuffy old guard of the folk genre who wanted to keep him slavish to their acoustic traditions. A Complete Unknown doesn’t try to cover Dylan’s entire life; it focuses on one specific chapter of his career. It’s more of a character study than the average biopic.

That year, he lost to another World War II-adjacent performance: Gary Oldman’s turn as Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. Chalamet’s nomination at 22 years old made him the third-youngest nominee in the category’s history (after nine-year-old Jackie Cooper for Skippy and 19-year-old Mickey Rooney for Babes in Arms).
