The Guardians of the Galaxy are absent from Avengers: Doomsday so far. The team last appeared in director James Gunn’s last Marvel Cinematic Universe movie before he left to co-run DC Studios and the new DC Universe. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 saw the original version of the team disband, while a new squad, which included Rocket Raccoon and Groot, debuted. With Marvel announcing Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, it was expected that at least one Guardians of the Galaxy actor would appear, but no cast member from the franchise has, with other teams being focused on instead.
Marvel Studios revealed the full cast of the next Avengers movie through a long livestream, but no member of the Guardians of the Galaxy has been confirmed for the film.
There is still time, as the cast of the film is expected to include dozens of actors from all over Marvel’s live-action history. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ended with the promise, “The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return.” As such, it would make sense for Chris Pratt’s Peter Quill to be announced for the upcoming MCU film, which could be part of a list of surprises Marvel has chosen to keep.
What The Guardians Of The Galaxy Missing From Avengers: Doomsday Means
The MCU Movie Includes Many Exciting Teams
Avengers: Doomsday‘s full cast list is shaping up to be something the MCU might never have seen before. The movie is going to include a few of the biggest Marvel teams in the comics, which could explain why the Guardians of the Galaxy are absent so far. First, there is obviously the focus on the new Avengers team. Characters like Sam Wilson’s Captain America, Simu Liu’s Shang-Chi, and Leтιтia Wright’s Black Panther will make up Earth’s Mightiest Heroes. Then, there are two MCU teams that will debut in the franchise’s upcoming 2025 movies.
The Fantastic Four and members of the Thunderbolts are in Avengers: Doomsday, which happens to spoil who survives from the latter. Then there is the fact that the multiverse film is pulling heavily from Fox’s X-Men franchise. Beast’s universe from The Marvels should reappear, with Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, Ian McKellen’s Magneto, and James Marsden’s Cyclops among the X-Men of the next Avengers movie. Since the Guardians of the Galaxy disbanded, Marvel might want to give a chance for fans to connect with the new team in a solo project, rather than the packed Avengers: Doomsday.
Our Take On The Guardians Of The Galaxy Missing From Avengers: Doomsday
While I would love to see the Guardians of the Galaxy interact with the rich characters who will appear in the next Avengers movie, I’m okay if they are not in it. There are already going to be plenty of exciting Marvel teams to keep things interesting. Besides, they could always show up in Avengers: Secret Wars, and I think a solo project that develops the new team before then could make their impact even more effective. That said, I still hold out hope that Star-Lord will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, joining the new Avengers team.
