Marvel Studios has officially confirmed the Avengers: Doomsday cast list, ahead of the movie’s 2026 release. Last summer, Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige confirmed a new direction for Avengers 5, which had previously been тιтled Avengers: Kang Dynasty. After an underwhelming response to the villain Kang – and Marvel parting ways with Kang actor Jonathan Majors – Feige announced a new MCU antagonist in the form of Robert Downey Jr’s Doctor Doom. Avengers 5 was then reтιтled to be Avengers: Doomsday, though the exact lineup of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes wasn’t revealed.

Today, Marvel Studios hosted a live stream on sites like X (formerly Twitter), YouTube and Instagram revealing the Avengers: Doomsday cast and confirming the movie is now in production. With the release date set for May 1, 2026, filming will take place for the next few months at least. The full Avengers: Doomsday cast list is below:

Is This The New Avengers Roster?

The Avengers: Doomsday cast announcement revealed a mixture of characters from all phases of the MCU – and even actors from other franchises. This makes sense since the current three phases of the MCU, 4-6, are тιтled the Multiverse Saga. Across both movies and television, Marvel has been exploring the multiverse, and that storyline is set to culminate in both Doomsday and the sixth Avengers movie, Secret Wars.

It’s worth noting that many of the stars of Marvel’s 2025 releases were part of the announcement, including multiple characters from upcoming films Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps. It’s unclear whether that means they’ll play key roles in Avengers: Doomsday, or if this is Marvel trying to emphasize the importance of these films. Of course, it would certainly make sense for the Fantastic Four to be a major part of Doomsday, since Doctor Doom is primarily a villain for that team. The reason for including so many Thunderbolts* characters is less obvious.

Another notable inclusion is Kelsey Grammer, who made his MCU debut in The Marvels post-credits scene, where he reprised his role as Hank McCoy, aka Beast, from the Fox X-Men universe. Along with the number of other returning original X-Men cast members, this indicates that the X-Men universe will be important to Avengers: Doomsday. It will be the first chance for Channing Tatum’s Gambit, who originated in last summer’s ᴅᴇᴀᴅpool & Wolverine, to appear alongside major X-Men characters like Professor X and Magneto.

The 2026 MCU Movie Will Be A Multiverse Event

Marvel’s Avengers movies have always been big event films, starting off with The Avengers in 2012 being a crossover that brought together the entire franchise thus far. So it’s not surprising that Avengers: Doomsday is looking to be another mᴀssive event, with a lengthy and impressive cast list spanning the entire MCU and beyond. However, what remains to be seen is how all these characters in the Avengers: Doomsday cast fit together.

While some characters have connections – in addition to the Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four, Sam Wilson and Bucky Barnes have also worked very closely together in the past – others are completely unknown to each other. For example, it’s unclear how The Fantastic Four will come to be involved with the other Avengers characters, or Fox’s X-Men, since they currently exist in other universes within the multiverse.

How Marvel pulls off bringing all these characters together will be the real test. Avengers: Endgame was, arguably, so successful because it whittled down the mᴀssive cast from Avengers: Infinity War to a much smaller team that received the majority of the movie’s focus. With a cast as large as Doomsday’s appears to be, the MCU might have another Infinity War on their hands, bouncing around across multiple storylines, which could be both good and bad. Ultimately, it depends on the Avengers: Doomsday story and how that unites the characters, which remains to be seen.
