Michael Fᴀssbender & Pierce Brosnan’s New Spy Thriller Unlocks Major Box Office Milestone (But Is It A Financial Hit?)

Michael Fᴀssbender and Pierce Brosnan‘s new movie crosses another box office milestone. Fᴀssbender, best known for playing the young Magneto in the X-Men prequel movies, has starred in several big-budget genre movies. His highest-grossing тιтles include X-Men: Days of Future Past, which concluded with $746 million worldwide, X-Men: Apocalypse, which amᴀssed $544 million, and the 2006 Zack Snyder movie 300, which ended its run at $456 million.

Brosnan is similarly a versatile actor who is no stranger to the spy genre, having starred in four James Bond movies, from 1995’s GoldenEye to 2002’s Die Another Day. He later pᴀssed the torch of 007 to Daniel Craig, who played the тιтular character across five movies. Most recently, Brosnan starred in the movies Four Letters of Love and The Unholy Trinity, and is set to appear in the upcoming 2025 film The King of Kings. Currently, though, he and Fᴀssbender have a movie in theaters that is steadily making progress at the box office.

Black Bag Crosses The $25 Million Milestone Worldwide

Black Bag Is Struggling To Break Even

Directed by Oscar winner Steven Soderbergh, Black Bag premiered in second place at the domestic box office with $7.6 million following its release on March 14. The second weekend saw a 44% drop but added another $4.2 million to its total. The star-studded film follows British intelligence officer George Woodhouse (Fᴀssbender), who suspects that his wife Kathryn (Cate Blanchett) may have betrayed her country. The movie sees Brosnan transforming into Arthur Stieglitz, the head of the National Cyber Security Center in London.

Per The Numbers, Black Bag has crossed the $25 million milestone at the international box office. However, it still falls short of the reported $50 million production budget. The movie currently occupies the 21st spot in the top-grossing movies at the global box office in 2025. Whether it will continue to have decent legs remains to be seen, but Black Bag is critically acclaimed, ranking among Fᴀssbender and Brosnan’s strongest movies on Rotten Tomtoes.

Our Take On Black Bag’s Box Office

Black Bag’s Box Office Growth Is Only One Aspect

Despite the slowdown in growth, Black Bag will continue climbing the box office charts, but whether it’ll ever break even is currently unknown. There’s a chance that the movie might not be able to pay for itself. Steven Soderbergh’s movies aren’t usually box office spectacles, but the director’s unique style certainly shines through Black Bag. Though not a box office hit, the new spy movie has received a lot of praise from critics and fans alike, being certified fresh on Rotten Tomatoes with a 97% critical approval rate.

According to the aggregated site, 70% of the audience would recommend the film to others. ScreenRant‘s review of Black Bag also highlights the intensity and drama that the latest Soderbergh feature offers. It seems that regardless of the movie’s box office performance, the new Michael Fᴀssbender and Pierce Brosnan movie is bound to be one of the highlights this year.
