Marvel has confirmed that Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan will share the screen again in 2026’s Avengers: Doomsday. Marvel hosted a live and extensive cast announcement for Avengers: Doomsday across its social media, including Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan. While the specifics of their roles in the MCU’s Avengers: Doomsday remains under wraps, it’s certain to recommence their captivating dynamic – which has been long overdue in the MCU timeline.
Avengers: Doomsday features an enormous ensemble cast and is quickly shaping up to be one of Marvel’s most ambitious crossover events yet. The slow-drip announcement of its cast, which took over 5 hours to fully unveil, included a lot of exciting names from the MCU, and even some from Fox’s X-Men movies. Among the highlights of this reveal was the confirmation that both Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan would be reprising their respective roles.
Anthony Mackie & Sebastian Stan Are Together Again In Avengers: Doomsday’s Cast
The Avengers: Doomsday Cast Has Been Announced And It’s Very Vast
Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan’s on-screen partnership is one of the MCU’s most enduring. Their first major interactions came in Captain America: The Winter Soldier, where Sam Wilson formed a friendship with Steve Rogers while Bucky Barnes was still operating as a brainwashed ᴀssᴀssin. The tension between Sam and Bucky became a defining aspect of Captain America: Civil War (2016), where their reluctant alliance provided some of the film’s most humorous moments.
Their dynamic took center stage in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021), which developed their relationship significantly. A highlight was their contrasting personalities – Bucky’s brooding, battle-worn demeanor clashing with Sam’s pragmatic optimism. Their back-and-forth banter and eventual mutual respect made them one of Marvel’s most beloved duos.
Bucky’s cameo was a highlight in Captain America: Brave New World, which exemplified how much their friendship had developed. The scene was incredibly touching, with Bucky arriving unexpectedly to offer Sam some sage advice after Torres is injured. With Avengers: Doomsday, their reunion marks their biggest film collaboration since Avengers: Endgame (2019). Whether they’ll share significant screen time together remains to be seen, but another dose of their signature chemistry looks hopeful.
Surely It’s Time For A Proper Captain America And Bucky Barnes Team-Up
Bucky And Sam Have An Enduring Friendship In The MCU
The last time audiences got to see Sam and Bucky leap into battle together was 2021’s The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. While Bucky’s Brave New World cameo was certainly poignant, it was hard not to feel slightly robbed that he didn’t appear more. Avengers: Doomsday presents the perfect opportunity to correct that. Sam Wilson is ᴀssembling the MCU’s new Avengers team.
Meanwhile, Bucky is the de facto leader of the Thunderbolts* – who also appear in Avengers: Doomsday. Sam will presumably call on Bucky and the Thunderbolt’s help during an impending Doom-shaped crisis, or perhaps even try to recruit him into the Avengers. Regardless, it seems they’ll be working together again.
Whether they are working in tandem or Sam is calling the sH๏τs, this offers ample opportunity to explore a clash of leadership styles between the two, which would inevitably end in funny jibes and silly bickering. With their camaraderie, deep history, and natural chemistry, there’s no doubt that Mackie and Stan’s reunion will be a highlight of Avengers: Doomsday. Now, the only question is whether Marvel will finally give them the true co-hero moment they deserve.
