Iconic Filmmaker John Carpenter Reveals If He Would Return To Directing 15 Years After His Last Movie

John Carpenter revealed whether he would ever direct another movie again. He is one of the most acclaimed directors of all time and is specifically known for his work in the horror and science fiction genres. Carpenter’s best movies include Halloween, Escape from New York, The Thing, and Christine. He has directed a total of 21 feature films throughout his career, 19 of which came in the ’70s, ’80s, and ’90s. His last movie, The Ward, was released in 2010.

In an interview with Variety, Carpenter shared that he would love to direct another movie. While he currently has no films lined up, he admitted that he’s no longer a young filmmaker who will direct any movie for any amount of money. Therefore, while Carpenter still loves directing, it would have to be the right project and circumstances. Read his full comments below:

Plans? I don’t know. I would love to direct again, given the right circumstances. But I’m not the same kid anymore who will do it for any amount of money. I can’t back into a budget anymore. I’m too old. It’s too hard. But directing is the love of my life. I’ll never stop loving that.

What John Carpenter’s Comments Mean For His Career

Carpenter Has Directed Several Critically Acclaimed Movies

Halloween was Carpenter’s third film and earned him widespread acclaim and recognition. He returned to write the sequel and has been involved in many other movies in the Halloween franchise. Most recently, he served as an executive producer and composer for the Halloween reboot trilogy that disregards all the films other than the first. Carpenter’s work on the slasher franchise led to his reputation as a master of the horror genre, but he has also directed several other critically acclaimed movies.

Carpenter Should Return To The Horror Genre

Even though Carpenter‘s last movie wasn’t particularly well-received, I would love to see him direct another movie. He is undoubtedly one of the best horror directors of all time, so it would be amazing to see him return to the genre after 15 years. He has already cemented himself as one of the best filmmakers in history and his contributions to the industry are evident, so it would be great to see him get super experimental with another horror movie, even if it is not received as well as some of his classic films.
