Tom Hiddleston Confirmed To Appear In Avengers: Doomsday Setting Up Potential Thor And Loki Reunion

Tom Hiddleston is coming back as Loki in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor last appeared in the Marvel Cinematic Universe during Loki season 2. One of the best MCU TV shows ended in a heartbreaking manner for Loki. While he became a hero, protecting the multiverse by securing its strings at Yggdrasil, it also meant that he was doomed to be alone for the rest of his days. It seemed like that would be it for Loki, but the MCU’s upcoming Avengers movies will be all about the multiverse, so Hiddleston joining Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast, makes sense.

Marvel Studios is announcing the cast of Avengers: Doomsday in a livestream, and it has been revealed that Tom Hiddleston will appear in the upcoming MCU movie.

So far, no more information has been given about Avengers: Doomsday‘s story other than it will star Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom, who serves as the film’s main villain. Hiddleston is one of the many MCU stars who have been confirmed for the Avengers movie throughout the day. Multiple actors from the upcoming Thunderbolts* and The Fantastic Four: First Steps are in the film, as are stars like Chris Hemsworth and more.

What Tom Hiddleston’s Avengers: Doomsday Casting Means

A Major MCU Reunion Can Finally Happen

The Avengers: Doomsday casting announcements allow the MCU to have Hemsworth’s Thor reunite with Hiddleston’s Loki. The MCU’s original God of Mischief was killed by Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War. However, a variant from Avengers: Endgame escaped when the heroes went back in time to the Battle of New York. Thor has yet to meet that variant, who, after two seasons of Disney+’s Loki, became the protector of the multiverse. With Hiddleston and Hemsworth confirmed for the next Avengers movie, it is expected that their paths will cross.

While Loki season 2 ended in a way that made it possible for Hiddleston never to reprise his role, the character makes a lot of sense for Avengers: Doomsday. The movie’s story might be a secret for now, but Robert Downey Jr.s Doctor Doom is likely to follow the path the character did in the comics. There, Victor von Doom took the power of the Beyonders and created Battleworld, a patchwork planet built of several different universes and characters. Doctor Doom could be after Loki’s power, as Hiddleston’s character protects the multiverse, explaining why the actor is back.

Our Take On Tom Hiddleston’s Avengers: Doomsday Casting

The MCU’s Return Of The God Of Stories Could End Tragically

Thanos killing Loki in Avengers Infinity War

I’m both excited and afraid now that it has been revealed that Hiddleston is in Avengers: Doomsday. On the one hand, we can finally see Thor meet his brother’s variant, which will surely be emotional. On the other hand, I think Doctor Doom has to be after his power so that he can control the multiverse and reshape it to his image. Sadly, I don’t think Loki is going to survive the events of the next Avengers movie. Either way, the fact that Loki is in another major MCU project is exciting, with Avengers: Doomsday‘s cast being ambitious.
