Holy Crap, Professor X & Magneto Are In Avengers: Doomsday

Avengers: Doomsday is continuing to add more X-Men actors as more iconic Marvel stars are returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a big shock in the middle of the week, a surprise Marvel Studios announcement launched on Wednesday, March 26, as a live stream is currently airing where they are slowly revealing stars who are set to appear in Avengers: Doomsday. While names have been revealed one after another, Marvel Studios has now confirmed that Avengers: Doomsday is in production.

While Marvel Studios’ ongoing Avengers: Doomsday cast reveal is still revealing multiple actors who will be part of the film, two additional X-Men stars from the Fox-Marvel era are set to appear in the Phase 6 film: Sir Patrick Stewart will be back as Professor X along with Sir Ian McKellan as Magneto. Check out Marvel’s announcements below:

Avengers: Doomsday will be Stewart’s second MCU movie, as he portrayed a Charles Xavier variant in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness on Earth-838 before getting killed by the Scarlet Witch. The last time fans saw his main version of Professor X in Fox’s X-Men universe was in Logan, where Xavier’s journey came to a tragic end.

For McKellen, Avengers: Doomsday will mark the first Marvel Studios movie that he has ever been in after he last portrayed Magneto in 2014’s X-Men: Days of Future Past. McKellen and Stewart will also be joined by Kelsey Grammer’s Beast, who was the first X-Men actor to be revealed for Avengers: Doomsday.

What The Return Of Sir Patrick Stewart & Sir Ian McKellen Mean For Avengers: Doomsday

As Professor X and Magneto are part of the Avengers: Doomsday cast, it showcases how Marvel Studios is going all in for the next Avengers installments by utilizing the X-Men at the same time. The Multiverse Saga is likely going to be the last time that many of these established Marvel actors get to play their characters, especially those who came from the Fox-Marvel era. That is why Avengers: Doomsday is a perfect opportunity to honor the X-Men films that helped pave the way for the comic book movie genre.

Since the MCU timeline is also getting ready for its own X-Men reboot, having the iconic actors who brought Magneto and Professor X to life for the first time on the big screen is only fitting, especially as Avengers: Doomsday is a battle for the entire multiverse. The bigger question, however, is how McKellen and Stewart’s characters will tell how they fit into the Avengers: Doomsday story, especially Xavier, who is ᴅᴇᴀᴅ in at least two universes. But with time travel likely also playing some role in Avengers: Doomsday, anything is possible.

Our Take On Sir Patrick Stewart & Sir Ian McKellen Appearing In Avengers: Doomsday

Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, and Ian McKellen as Magneto in X-Men The Last Stand

After all their years of working together, both in and outside the Marvel franchise, it’s going to be incredibly exciting seeing Stewart and McKellen back in Avengers: Doomsday and whichever other X-Men actors end up getting revealed to be part of the cast. Whether or not the X-Men will also have a role to play in Avengers: Secret Wars remains to be seen, as those plans are likely not to be revealed anytime soon. But as Avengers: Doomsday is now in production, there will hopefully be more clues given to how the X-Men will fit into this film.
